Since the world population anyway is twice what a 32-bit integer can hold, will AtariAge "do the math" and go directly to accommodating a 64-bit number of members? Yes, that would involve quite a lot of aliens but hey, we've been involving those in our video games for years. Mostly shooting them, but still.

Lord of the Rings extended version- im about halfway through Fellowship. don't feel like the extra scenes add a whole lot. Felt it just kind of slowed the pacing down. still plan to watch the entirety of it but on future viewings it'll be the theatrical versions for me

    • The Arduino can be powered in three ways: - direct 5V to the VIN input (e.g. from the SIO port) (you wrote that this works fine, so it is unlikely there should be a short anywhere on the 5V rail) - from an external power supply, in which case 5V and 3.3V are created by voltage regulators - 5V from the USB port   You can try this way, without the Atari connected of course.   If everything will be OK and the screen will work correctly, this may indicate a fault in the voltage regulators circuitry, admittedly there is a diode there to protect against reversed voltage polarity.   Repair of this is certainly beyond your technical skills and the cost of repair in some electronics service will exceed the cost of a new Arduino (~$5), but for any electronics technician such a repair (e.g. replacement of capacitors or burnt regulator) is relatively simple, fast and cheap.   If you feel confident enough with a multimeter, you can check with an external power supply what the voltages are on the 5V and 3.3V pins (multimeter set to V, black probe to GND, red to voltage holes).
    • If you look at this video where they are demonstrating THEC64 Mini, in Spain I think, users never tested THEC64 Joystick, it was there but was a model, it used a Snes Controller so tell you straight away there was something wrong with THEC64 Joystick from the beginning. More info on them is here, I wrote a threat about them, here.. https://thec64community.online/thread/426/rgl-thec64 I need to add THE400 Mini yet.
    • if it turns out to be your Pokey chip that is bad - don't throw it away. It will likely work fine in a dual pokey chip stereo upgrade as the secondary pokey chip as the music function still works, it's the other fucntions that have just failed. Done that a few times now with such chips.
    • @Gary from OPA before XB3 was popcarted to add additional features, do you happen to know what hardware Winfried Winkler developed on?   Did you have contact with him while producing the boards for Asgard, or were you just provided with the code and told, make a cartridge the module can run from?   Do you still have the PAL/GAL logic you used for this and/or SOB? It's pretty neat, how using the tech of the time, you where able to create a GROM emulator with just a couple of GALs.

    • I've socketed the PIA - no difference. I have continuity between CPU IRQ & Pokey & PIA.   I've checked power to the CPU, PIA & Pokey and have 5v.   I'll see what happens now when replacement Pokey turns up.

    • When playing classic carts I have usually purchased them stand alone, no box or manual, I am sure many of you are the same. To get more info we are then forced online to check out the manual, sometimes I do this, most of the time I do not. Well, we should do it, not only do you not get the most out of the game but you are also missing out on some of the nostalgic experience from back in the day, albeit on screen instead of on paper. I am so glad that new games will come with a manual. All this leads me onto the topic...   My RTFM Game discovery today is Slot Machine. Now, I have always found slot machine games quite dull whenever I have tried them, with the Codemasters one back on the Spectrum being the best of the bunch. Well, we have a new king in town!   After I RTFM, I learnt that the single player game is actually against the console with the ability to vary your stake and increase your chance of winning (dependent on which game you have selected) and that this is a fun game! I have not tried in in two player mode yet, but usually you would expect it to be even better. The game variations, like with many 2600 games really add some variety and value to the package.   I just beat the console with 36 coins left on game 3. Take that Atari! I will go less conservative next time, it will be fun to win by a wider margin (higher score). This is one game which I recommend that you try out, you might be surprised... just make sure that you RTFM first.   What are your RTFM Game recommendations? Please share, along with a screenshot and the manual.   Slot_Machine_1979_Atari.pdf
    • The CPU is worth a look also.  If the IRQ pin isn't connected you can have trouble. You could just check continuity between the CPU IRQ pin and Pokey and PIA. PIA is a 6520, though could be labelled as 6820 - "Atari part # CO14795 or CO12298 - sometimes no Atari number, Hitachi HD68B21, GTEu G65SC21P" (from AtariMax Jindroush site mirror)
    • Yes, a guy named Shawn Kelly did this about 20 years ago or so.
