This is looking better and better. But like I said in the netbook threads, progress is marching quickly in the netbook space. As good as this looks, it may become obsolete tomorrow. The big deal right now is the NVidia Ion platform and giving these things some actual graphical horsepower. If this still has the GMA950 style graphics it might not be that great value in the long term. It would be great having a netvertible that would actually have enough horsepower to work as a desktop replacement. A dual-core Atom w/dedicated graphics where it can push 1080P to an external monitor and play games reasonably well would be so sweet. This can't do all that.

IMO the current netbooks are moving more and more away from the original EEE idea. Often they are nothing but cheaper sub notebooks now.

I don't want to edit large word documents on my netbook so the keyboard size is not the essential, I just want to surf the web, write some emails etc. But this for at least 5h (so with breaks, the battery should last one working day). It should be portable (~1kg) and I definitely do not want to waste precious battery power on 3D power.

The original EEE only had 800x600 which is pretty feeble for webpages. Also, dedicated video hardware helps out when watching youtube and hulu. Intel did not anticipate the netbook space and the EEE was kind of cobbled together. The higher expectations are of netbooks the more it will push R&D to deliver more features without sacrificing price or battery life. One thing I don't like with netbooks is the move to 10". I think once you move up beyond 8.9" you have something that feels just like a traditional laptop.

Agreed. The 8.9" versions are the best compromise for me too.
