Posted on my live journal about this as well, but I've been inspired to attempt switching over to linux again. I think there's a free program for most everything I do on the computer, although I'd have to find out what people use for 7800 emulation, if anything. Was mostly for games that I would drag my feet on the switch (As I'm too lazy to bother with dualbooting

) but when I think about it, I don't really play games on the computer anymore beyond the occational randomly addictive flash game so eh. So long as I don't procrastinate on it I guess...

The goal is to be 100% linux (With wine for a couple things I guess) by the end of Febuary. We'll see how it goes.

Definitely a good idea - Ubuntu Linux is very friendly for desktop usage these days. 2600 emulation is well supported with Stella, while 7800 emulation is acceptable with MESS (although real hardware with a CC2 is my preferred option).

If I had been around and active when the CC2's were first released I'd likely would have snapped one up, but the price and rarity of them these days make it unlikely that I'll ever have one so it'll be emulation for me. That's going to be a problem if/when I actually start trying to homebrew the 7800 but oh well, so long as there's something to use.

I played around with Ubuntu Linux myself for more than year. It has not been easy as Linux does have it's limitations namely drivers. But it has been interesting and if you or anyone else wants to know what problems I faced and how did I workaround them. Please feel free to message me.

And by the way I am still going to continue to use Linux on my second computer.

Although I tend to not use either of those two particular things very much these days, so we'll see how things go.

I'll probably focus on one thing at a time as time permits to get it up and running again.

When I get more money I may buy a second second-hand computer to put in the room. On that one I'll likely keep XP if possible, and use it for the extra hardware and software that I just can't get working under Linux. That comp will likely remain offline tho.

Great Idea about the second computer, it will get you use to the OS. But remember Linux has some advantages over Windows namely in that they are trojan and virus free. And there is no such thing as Linux spyware.
