Music Update

Posted by SpiceWare, in Music 10 March 2009 · 97 views

Ladytron's coming back to the US, and this year I know ahead of time!! They'll be in Houston on Monday April 20th (other Texas stops are the 21st in Austin and 22nd in Dallas). They're touring with The Faint, who sound pretty good.

Blitz, new album by KMFDM is coming out in 2 weeks. I've preorded the Blitz Bundle (signed CD, T-Shirt, etc) from KMFDM's online store.

New things I've been listening to:

Rainy Monday by Shiny Toy Guns

Mamma's Boy by Chromeo (link to high quality video at end of text)

Shorty the Pimp by Naked Highway

Love is Noise by The Verve

Frontload by Freezepop

Love in the Year 3000 by The B-52S

Bad Things by Jace Everett

Not a Love Song by Uh Huh Her

Bubblicious by Rex the Dog (link to high quality video at end of text)

It took me a while to listen to all of them. (If I'd move any slower I'd be considered dead ;))

My favorite is Rainy Monday, just love that song ;)

The B52's tune hit me by surprise, last time I heard from them was the BC 52's thing for the Flintstones movie. So they just had a comeback?

The Uh Huh Her vid has a weird side effect: I usually end up watching Shakespears Sisters on Youtube for an hour, whenever I try it ;)
(BTW: My all-time favorite song about a vibrator: Pulsatron ;))

Considering current favourites, I love Amy MacDonald:
Mr. Rock'n'Roll
This is the Life

Wow, some music we both agree on. ;)

I've been listing to DobaCaracol quite a lot lately (perfect sound for the summer coming):
Baiser Salé
Etrange
Droit Devant

Know how that goes, haven't had time for a lot of other stuff lately. My home repairs from Hurricane Ike are finally done and I've been busy the past week putting together the new furniture for my office. Thought I'd be done, but a bottom piece to the desk was missing so I can't finish it until the replacement arrives. It'll nice to be working at a desk again instead of on my dining room table (I work from home).

same here, that's why it's listed first in the songs :D My other favorites of theirs are Le Disko and You Are The One.

Yep, their latest album Funplex was released a year ago. The other song I really like off that album is Pump.

Do you mean Not a Love Song is about a vibrator??? I like the DJ Earworm Mashup Don't Mess with Orgasmatron, and The Dresden Dolls Coin Operated Boy. Pulsatron's quite good - added it to my "Future Music List". Not familiar with Shakespears Sisters - will have to look into their stuff - any recommendations?.

My KMFDM order just arrived - interestingly enough, the KMFDM Store is near downtown Houston, about 20 miles from my house.

Whoah! The best German song ever finally arrived on YouTube!

The Eternal Afflict - San Diego (The Tragical)

That's just the song, a video was never shot. Turn up the volume to the max for best experience ;)

Added to my FML!

Need to recover from unexpected dental work before I can buy more music. My dental coverage caps out at $500. Had a root canal go bad, $1200 for the Endodontist (specialist) to treat it, then another $700 for the new crown - so $1400 out of my pocket over the past month ;)

Whoah... that's a lot of money! ;)

Regarding KMFDM you mentioned above, I might actually see them live this summer. My wife asked me to check wether there's a good Open Air Festival this year and I'm leaning towards this years Amphi Festival in Cologne.

Besides KMFDM there's also Fields of the Nephilim, Front 242, Laibach and other interesting acts in the line-up:

Cool!

They've played in Houston a number of times, but that was before I discovered them so I haven't seen them live yet.

Sweet! New Pet Shop Boys single, Love Etc.. Pretty catchy!

New album Yes coming out on the 21st in the US (released last month in the UK).

I've been listening to the PSB since before their first album, a friend had a few 12" versions of West End Girls a year or 2 before Please was released.

My problem with late Pet Shop Boys tunes is that they all feel a bit over-polished - and missing an edge here and there.

I totally loved them at the time of the "Introspective" album, but they never seemed to be able to deliver such a masterpiece again.

Still my favourite PSB song: Left to my own Devices

Yeah, there is something about their earlier work. If I had to pick one favorite, it would be Love Comes Quickly (gee, they look so young! but didn't we all) from their first album. I still get goose bumps when it comes up in random play

Shiny Toy Guns covers Peter Schilling's Major Tom(coming home)

That's pretty cool! Unlike their lame Taco cover this is almost outdoing the original

Wasn't aware of them covering Puttin' on the Ritz - though of course Taco's version was a cover as well as the song's from 1929.

Wow, I didn't know it was that old already! ;)

The Shiny Toy Guns version sure sounds like they're trying to imitate the Taco one though. At first I wasn't even sure if they went so far as sampling his voice

BTW: I like the english lyrics for the Major Tom cover.

BTW²: Since you're American, I'm sure you know The Crüxshadows? Love their use of violins:
(Basically I had to think of this, since it also has "Coming Home" in brackets ;))

True, it would be better if they gave it more of their own style, like Scissor Sisters did with their cover of Comfortably Numb.

While I've heard it in German, Peter Schilling's English version is what normally played in the states.

Nope, America's a big place ;) Sounds good though.

Andrew Sullivan interviewed the Pet Shop Boys, separately in order "to avoid the classic Neil chit-chat followed by Chris one-liners"

Speaking of old favourites returning to form, I'm currently totally thrilled by this one :ponder:

Wow - that's quite good. Don't have many U2 albums, I suspect that will be changing soon :)

I was surprised to find a new Aqua song a couple days ago. I'd picked up their first album as a birthday gift for a friend when "Barbie Girl" was hitting the states. She lived in Corpus Christi and had a bunch of the collectable Barbies. The song hadn't yet hit the radio down there, I'd checked with her husband, so I knew it wasn't something she'd already have. After we listened to the whole album I ended up buying a copy for myself :ponder:

Do you get to hear my current addiction "Basshunter" in the states?
