less than a week until my folks move in. I'd moved the contents of my three closets into the family room and have been working on it over the past few weeks. I decided to also empty the bookshelf in the guest room so they could use it for storage. My family room currently looks like this:

The right side where the books are piled up used to be stacked with boxes so high you couldn't sit on the right futon and see the TV screen.

In the midst of this project, I also was given 2 additional computer systems for work (6 in total) and had to make room for them in my office (I work at home). I ended up emptying my desk and filing cabinet into the formal living room, then shifted them over so I could stack the 2 new systems on top of the 2 systems that used to be stacked between the desk and wall. The 2 old systems were a few inches taller than the desk when they were stacked. With the new systems on top they're almost even with the desk. On top of the computers is the charging station for the PS3 controller I use for gaming on my MacBook Pro.

I've been going through everything as it gets put back into the office as well. I've shredded a bunch of old documents that are no longer needed, as well as tossed out manuals and such for things I no longer have. It'll be nice when it's all done and I can put more time into Space Rocks :)

Our construction project at work was delayed for a couple of weeks, so I only just got moved back into my office at work this afternoon. It took two of us a full day and half just to move everything, and this was after weeks of sorting, organizing and throwing stuff out.

It was a bit shocking seeing everything spread out in the room I had temporarily moved into. That room is probably five times the size of my office, and I managed to pretty-much fill it. The key phrase there though is "spread out", since it was in the process of being sorted. But it's still amazing how much junk you can accumulate (in my case - 18 years at the same job, 13 of that in the same office).

Although I've finished moving the stuff over, I'm not set back up yet. That will take several more days, plus I still have some more sorting and organizing to do. But what's left is not too bad (not looking forward to the file cabinet though... it sits there... mocking me).

Not a lot of fun, but oddly therapeutic and long overdue. It'll be nice to be through with it, and even though I have less space now, at least it's all well organized and the space itself has been renovated, so it's actually more usable than before.

Oh, and we're having a "shredding day" at work next month. They bring in an outside company to do it, so I'll be taking full advantage of that (I have a few boxes at home I'm saving up ;) ).

My understanding is that none of his student work exists, except in fragments (and we have none of it). Students retained all of their original work, and in the early years of the Character Animation program, no copies were made or kept by the school. The earliest work we have dates from '83, except for a dub of John Lasseter's two films.

In hindsight of course it's too bad, but it took years for any of our alumni to become well known.

I noticed the same thing when piling all the stuff from the closets into the family room - it took up so much space I was shocked that it had all fit in the closets, and that's even after leaving certain things in the closets like my cloths in my closet, the drawers with video games in the computer room closet, and things that belong to my parents in the guest room closet. I have 2 layers of rods in my closet so I did a quick once over and put anything I wouldn't wear anymore in the trash (damaged clothing) or on the dining room table for Good Will, and put everything remaining on bottom rod. After wearing and washing items they get put back on the top rod, though if I put something on and it doesn't fit anymore it joins the stack on the dining room table. I've got 20-25% of my cloths left to go through, didn't realize I had so many things to wear.

That it is! Some of the stuff I've found has been in boxes since the mid 90s.

One of the things I found this week was the oil for my shredder, so it's been freshly oiled :)

I have a good shredder at home (and oil), but it's just not up to this kind of work. It will run for about 20 minutes at a clip, but then it has to cool down (presumably to keep it from seizing). It works great for small stacks, not so good for multiple storage bins.
