Those darn jackdaws...

I wrote a song called "Jackdaws Love My Big Sphinx of Quartz." Most of the music I make I record for myself to enjoy (god forbid anyone hear "The Most Disgusting Song Ever Made...") but I have decided to share this little bit of wisdom with you, and I plan to make a whole album of stuff like this. It took a few nights of recording to come up with this, and I'm still not really pleased with the finished take (a couple of noises in the background, maybe someone could take those out or tell me some program better than Audacity), but it will have to do. I use Audacity to take out unwanted parts of the song, like turning the mic on and other stuff that makes noises I don't want. Someday I want to spring the money to make my own album on vinyl, but first I have to make it. That's what I'm doing now. Both sides will have to be less than 20 minutes, so the whole album will be less than 40 minutes long, which is what most albums are anyway, which I figure is a carry over from the days of vinyl where you couldn't store 80 minutes' worth of music on a single disc. Well, now you can, and some prog rock bands do take advantage of this fact (Dream Theater comes to mind...) Well, anyway, I made a cover and the title song. The cover I had to spend at least a few hours doing, most of them yelling at Photoshop because it was being stupid because I don't know how to use it very well. It's supposed to be a couple of jackdaws carrying a big sphinx of quartz in the sky with their talons, which I assume is how jackdaws carry stuff, I wouldn't know because jackdaws are a European species of birds and I'm here in the USA. But anyway, enjoy and I'll periodically post stuff on this site. I have about 100 songs I have written, I'll have to pick out the cream of the crop and rerecord them for this album. I kind of want this to be in the same spirit of Beck's 1994 album Mellow Gold only with me singing and playing the piano being the only instrument. I read somewhere Mellow Gold was made on a budget of $300, so stuff like that can hit it big, but only if you're a musical genius like Beck is. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.atari2600land.com/jackdaws/ enjoy.
