Hi there!
Who'd have thought that I would ever play an official Greenpeace video game?
Well, since it's AFAIK also the only Greenpeace game in existance, it probably won't happen again anytime soon. Not that I'm biased towards or against Greenpeace. They often come across as fanatics, but at least for a better cause than most other fanatics
The game itself is a somewhat solid mini game collection of seven different missions like spray painting baby seals as pictured above. The gameplay varies in quality, but in general they resemble simpler mid 80's Arcade Style games like e.g. Jumpman, Space Invaders, Qix or Popeye.
Each has a certain goal you're supposed to achieve within a time limit, like e.g. spelling out 'Stop Acid Rain' or rescuing two dozen baby seals. They're not as good as e.g. the mini games in "No More Heroes 2", but all are playable and mostly fair.
The main downer is the below average presentation: Music and art are both equally insulting for a late '89 C64 game. Anyway, the intention of the game was getting a message across, which it tried hard to do in every level up to the final screen:
As much of an oddball now as it was back in the day, it's probably been rightfully forgotten, at least considering from a pure gaming value point of view.
Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another Greenpeace game, but first it'll continue with something else.
Greetings,
Manuel
