So I dug into my previous-previous PC from 2006 to see if there were any parts I could scavenge for my newer PCs. Short answer: nothing.

Teaching someone how to operate a clutch pedal is very difficult. It's something I don't even think about and I don't even know how to explain how I do it, it comes so naturally after 20 years of driving

When my dad attempted to teach my sister to drive a stick she got so upset with him that she got out of the pickup truck and walked home.

I was tasked with teaching her and figured out her biggest issue was to get the truck moving without stalling.  If she managed to get into 2nd she could get to the higher gears without much trouble.

My solution was to take her to a new neighborhood that was being built, so we were on a new road without any traffic, then telling her "stop" and "go" as we went down the road. She had it down within a half hour.
      3. x=usr(1536)

Easiest way to teach someone how to drive a manual transmission: live in a country where, if you take your driving test in an automatic, you're restricted to only automatics until you re-take the test in a manual and pass.  Your insurance will also be even more astronomically high because you're not considered to be a fully-competent driver.  Oh, and due to a quirk in the law, failing your manual test after you have your automatics-only licence also invalidates your automatics-only licence because you just failed a driving test.

It's amazing how many people have no issues with driving a manual as a result.
      4. GoldLeader

@x=usr(1536)  Is that how it was in Ireland?

I've no worries,  I took my driver's test with a manual at age 16...
      5. x=usr(1536)

@GoldLeader: Yep!  Same in the UK, though I don't think they had the issue we did with failing the manual test and losing your existing automatics-only licence.  That was a very Irish bit of law.
      6. x=usr(1536)

@Atarian7: Learned that one the hard way in a Series IIA Land-Rover.  No synchromesh on 1st or 2nd (or reverse, for that matter).  The day I swapped out that gearbox for a later one with full synchros was pure bliss

    • Shielding for sure - none of the cables I've found are gonna have individual shielding (and maybe not outer). Unfortunately I cannot find a single double shielded solution (at any price) other than sourcing for diy; Where would I test video circuit power? What's a reasonable voltage there? Oscillator v xtal & Freddie: is that specific to all boards or just w/Freddie? (mine's standard, though a late model); Power supply is solid (tested/metered);  Everything's on same circuit;    Thanks for the tips!
    • It's a 70Mhz ARM running the entire game internally using the 2600 as a screen buffer.  Think of it as a GBA with a low resolution screen.  Probably more CPU power in there than the Jaguar has combined.  Not really fair to call them 2600 games at all, let alone have them compete with other 2600 games.
    • I think it's odd in the same way it's odd there are so many different variations of what people have done to get it to work, and a few who haven't. If you read through the threads, it's kind of a mess. I chose the most common approach that seems to have worked for most. But there is definitely not anything I've overlooked afa wiring scheme or dongle mod, and the computer and regular controllers are all working/behaving 100%.  The most often failure in the threads involves power routing and then pairing, and I'm having no problem w/either.  So it's either some activation mode on the 8bitdo side that I've not read/found, or they've done something to prevent/preempt one from using it on an Atari. I'm hoping it's the former, but....

    • I am a Myarc noob so this has probably been done before but I couldn't find any info on creating your own HD (MFM) images. I had a crack at it and made a quick guide along the way (see attached).    It uses the CHDMAN MAME tool (attached) and you will need an existing HD image to start with. The latter can be found on whtech or see the latest MDOS release.   Again, there may be much better info out there; let me know and I'll update this post. Each was 256k.   Sharing it here so everyone has access!
