    • @brain, I'm back from two weeks of vacation and now a week of work, so have had a bit of time to get back into this.   Doing this with a new PCB obviously would be a lot nicer--have you been able to make any progress? I know you have a lot of irons in the fire.   But in the interim...   I reviewed the technical manual you linked and noted all the proper signals are present at the edge connector so that's a good start. There's also some notes about generation of "wait states" by essentially slowing down the CPU when accessing addresses that are slower than the CPU can handle (it doesn't have a concept of wait states built-in). I also wonder how "CALL ADMEM" works, whether it attempts to write/read in the expansion RAM range until it hits a bad return. Since I've read that 32KB cartridges have been made for the TI-95 and claims are they work on the TI-74 I'll ignore these.   Comparing the existing 8KB RAM chip (HM6264LFP-15) and the candidate 32KB (HM62256LFP-15) yields minimal differences: The 8 KB memory has two fewer address pins, as expected, but also has two CEs (-CE and CE). The 32 KB memory has the two additional address pins and eliminates CE. A14 is assigned to pin 1 which is NC on the 8 KB chip. A13 is assigned pin 26 which is CE on the 8 KB chip.    The simple hand-drawn schematic seems simple enough. To alter the board, it looks like memory pin position 26 should be eliminated from the existing circuit and connected to A13 on the edge connector. A14 needs to be connected from the edge connector. It's a shame the memory chip is surface mounted. That'll probably require drilling a hole to run a wire from edge connector pin 29 A14 to the chip's A14--there's very little space on the sides of the board, but maybe there's a little room at the back of the board to run a wire from bottom to top. The board is packed very tightly in the module.   I should note that I've obtained a second 8 KB RAM cartridge so have some additional freedom for experimenting. Also have three TI-74s.   I'll look into purchasing a few of the 32 KB RAM chips.
    • The smallest virtual server is only € 1 per month: https://www.ionos.de/server/vps#tarife   I'll ask the support during my daily nagging call tomorrow, if this vServers have access to the databases of my hosting package.
    • CP/M has the drive format set in the BIOS.  That being said, I have two nice 1050's that are patiently waiting to participate in the testing.   🙂
    • Thanks Ricky, I think that a SAMS design would be the IDEAL choice to go with an IDE board. One caveat is that I will be stretching my 2 sided board designs to a new limit, still it is a great test for pushing myself towards excellence and making a difference towards a more versatile TI99/4A for those without a full size TI-PEB. I am also making a case for this and other MPEB design footprints. The picture is my effort at my current 95% wiring. I hope you like my acronym calling it SAMSIDE and being a side car of SAMS + IDE, regards Arto
    • The AT* tools all run on CP/M, so I assume ATCOPY copies files from DOS 2 disks to CP/M disks. Compatibility with ED is handled by BDOS+BIOS. The dumps are not correct though. They include a zeroed page zero. I suppose if you cut of the first 256 bytes, they will work. I can run them through a disassembler if you want to. They are fairly small. The idea is that ATFORMAT formats a disk (that would have to be changed to ED, not sure how it signals the Atari to do the format command instead of R/W) and run ATSYSGEN to copy the bootblock to make a bootable "system" disk.   BTW if you are running short on disk space in the bootblock if you add terminal handling and debugging capabilities, you might want to have a look at https://github.com/davidgiven/cpm65/blob/master/src/lib/loader.S . That's a small loader that knows just enough about the CP/M filesystem to load files (bios.sys, bdos.sys, ccp.sys) instead of including them in the bootblock, provided that 1) the file occupies exactly one extent, 2) it contains no empty blocks, 3) it's on drive 0, and 4) the file exists. If you decide to use that, you might even cut back on the number of reserved tracks to 2 or even 1.   Re debugging via a Z80 interrupt. There's DDT.COM which you might want to overlay. It's a weird beast though, as it consists of multiple parts of which the first one is a relocator to upper memory, the second and third part are the actual program that gets relocated, and the fourth part is the relocation table. I recently setup a github repo that builds all of CP/M 2.2 from source with a ISIS-II PL/M-80 cross-compiler, a ISIS-II ASM80 cross-assembler, and a DRI ASM compatible cross-assembler. There was no native tool to generate the PRL (Page ReLocation) table, so I wrote a small utility to do that. The repo is here: https://github.com/ivop/cpm22-from-source   Another possibility would be to run the debugger/monitor at the Atari side. You are basically a "Freezer" for the Z80. The only thing the Z80 IRQ handler should do is save its registers somewhere the Atari can read them. You could hide that small routine in the BIOS. That way you do not have to overwrite any (upper) memory with DDT or another monitor/debugger, which might conflict with the running application you are trying to debug.
    • All rouge like games are out of balance?
    • Are you doing any testing with any other I/O devices (i.e. real drives, Atari RAM disks, SDrive max)?
    • Wow! Pretty amazing what you did in only 2 weeks! A full-blown game
