Anyone know how to do a proper controls setup for STADIUM CROSS in MAME?  The menu is even weird-- there's no Up/Down/Left/Right control options for Player 1, but there are for Player 2-- why the hell is that??  What's the default for pulling up on the jumps?

I just learned we can access our work computer from home via VPN, so instead of being lightly sick and falling behind on work, I could've got work done.

For one company that I work, I do so exclusively online. They keep a productivity score based on keystrokes, mouse movements, and sometimes video analysis.

Worked at home exclusively for 2,5 years during covid. Walls where kinda closing in at the end and it's good that the office is again an option. But I still like to work at home a few days a week, like now.

Working from home has always been the dream!  In the 80's we didn't all have powerful computers and a network (the Internet) to do it...
      4. carlsson

The nominal state is to be at the office 100% of the working hours, but apparently I don't have to lay off completely when I'm home sick, if I'm capable to get something done.

    • Nice. Played it on Felix. I wonder if the rapid firing needed will work on the real machine 🙂
    • I am not in a position to tell anyone how to run a business, but if customers paid 400 Dollars up front, they can expect something in return within a reasonable time frame.
    • "NEAR..."   But, seriously, it's hard to say, I had a "fully working" Atari XE, and that it has some problem, it turned out when I wanted to add a memory expansion to it. Sometimes you add some modification, and it turns out, for example, that the voltage or clock waveform is "ugly" on the oscilloscope and something there does not want to work....
    • It may well be failing to open the image for output, or something similar. Errors like this you will miss as the command box just flashes up and vanishes. It does work, as I've played that CDI, so you are definitely doing something wrong.
    • A bit of more specific to telnet BBSes related GEMTOS report. I went to France, Saint-Juste-en-Chaussee this weekend for the GEMTOS Gathering . Saint-Juste-en-Chaussee is near to Paris if you want to situate it on a map of France. I had brought my Wimodem232PRO with me along my 520ST+ . Quite a lot of people who visited my desk were wondering what the device was . In General it boiled down to they were unaware of the BBS scene so understood it as file-server or like what the French had in the past - MINITEL (look it up) they had a previous BBS experience of back in the days with actual modems and analog phone lines but were unaware BBSes still existed they knew vaguely of BBSes being brought online nowadays using Telnet but were unaware of ESP - Wifi Modem devices a few people actually used SLIP or a PC or Raspberry Pi to use telnet but specifically to access a modern PC/fileserver So I happily demonstrated my BBS and the WimodemPRO and informed quite a lot of people about the Zimodem firmware and open-source ESP devices. Some of the guys are hosting Atari events in France and were quite pleasantly surprised when I showed them my event calendar on the BBS , listing their event. Sadly enough with the strict program GEMTOS needs to be run at , I didn't end up giving my presentation on Sunday but I guess out of the 50-60 people who were present , about 10-20 of them did get a live demonstration by me using my setup. I guess mission accomplished and since I am still visiting a lot more events this year , I hope this trend continues. Will have to wait and see if there is a benefit to it in terms of long-time BBS users/visitors .
    • I remember seeing and trying a prompt in the early days that instructed it to answer more like that, and it seemed to work. The memory problem is probably bigger long term than the quality of people on the internet, though that's huge. The models are trained to generate a fixed matrix, as it were. Currently the way memory is usually implemented is just to make it part of the prompt, which necessarily limits how much memory is possible (quite limited, in many cases). Until we have a better/faster way to incorporate additional information to the dataset, I don't see true persistence happening.   That said, the ability to start with a baseline and /actually/ teach it is probably going to be the next leap forward. It's probably not that far off but I think it will require another algorithm jump, rather than relying on hardware advances. We'll see in a couple of years if my crystal ball is any good.
    • I've put the latest version of the firmware live, so grab it if you want to.   It improves CD support in that WTR, VidGrid and other games which were not previously working now run, but reliability is still sketchy. There is also memory track support for CD game saves. I'm really not sure if there's anything more I can do to improve reliability. As mentioned before, doing things on the Jaguar which really make no sense have helped, which really does lead me to believe this part of the Jaguar is just broken. Much like the UART. It also tallies with the fact that the JaguarCD add-on is very unreliable -- the reality may be that the Jaguar may well be half of the problem.   I'll continue to see if there's anything more I can do, but this may be as good as it gets.
