My two most recent reproduction cartridges (of some unreleased games). Astro War and Mazy Match

I absolutely love the label art on these two cartridges. It kind of gives me "hippie/black light" vibes. I might have to put these right next to my Jimi Hendrix poster 😜

There was a certain "zen" to coding ON the original 8-bit hardware (with key-click ON on an original 800), back in the very early 80s ... but between MADS, CA65, WUDSN and VSC w/ add-ins (inc. Wine and Altirra) ... things are MUCH faster and smoother ...

Time to decide what to write (my "Oregon Trail" dream still fresh-in-mind ...)
      1. Torq

As good as WUDSN is ... Eclipse is still a cluster ...
      2. x=usr(1536)

Totally agreed re: the key click.  It drove my parents up the wall to the point where I had to unplug the speaker or face the potential confiscation of the machine until I figured out how to make it not wake them up at 3 a.m.

    • GHOSTS AND TROLLS PROJECT 0.3   Zombie in the area. Updated Arthuro sprites. Unfortunately I have just over 600 bytes free. I won't be able to add much more functionality while keeping the rom at 4kb. I think it's incredible what Activision was able to do in the past with 4kb, its best games that became classics come down to this standard originally established on the 2600 hardware. Nowadays there are also notable examples of programmers who managed to do the same feat. Ghosts_and_Trolls_Project_0.3.bas.bin
    • Good choices. I had all 3 of those games as a kid and they all saw a significant amount of play.    When you say "new purchases" are they new to you or brand new (still sealed) games?
    • Personally, I'd refer to such games as Bubble Bobble, The FairyLand Story, Snow Bros and even Mario Bros as "Cutie Busters" or "Critter Busters".
    • Hello I'm trying to purchase an Atari 800, I think the design is super cool and the beginning of home computers and an advanced one such as the Atari 800 years before the Commodore 64 or VIC 20. I already have a working Commodore 64 with a SD2IEC+ paired with a Epyx Fastload Reloaded so If that helps to show my prior experience with retro computing. So on the the meat and potatoes I have a deal lined up with a local shop for an Atari 800 for $300 I haven't discussed other details with the shop owner, recently I saw that prices on Ebay have lowered since my original interest in the platform in 2020-2021 I have found a listing for a 800 with 810 disc drive saying the unit powers on and is in the box in what looks like great condition: https://www.ebay.com/itm/326105736862?itmmeta=01HWNWFNJTHY0R7GXN38VWKDVR&hash=item4bed6aa69e:g:rMgAAOSwdhtmLVl5&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwFzWoHtuemOwVB7Yj0Vk3OPzxTE9JKze4m51ifJ67GlnYAhpToDdxk9Rw19Au46wNyyBxcWJka7A%2B86XBTDaDZ%2F07%2BRBTqBI%2F0yFey3A5B9APEJOkd4m%2B4p3vOQw7xMahbOGojyjzrzGOZev%2FanJgOfH2mTla7NaYWwQ%2B4e6Qi0S7W%2B7738DMXic7Ze%2BsTJ1arLrJvX%2FWqvKOFxjEO4xdQ%2FiadBKdnyR9F%2BZupbocHIdswZzEPtNcVpNnPi5QOIA6Q%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9DZvrzlYw   So I guess my question is are these reasonable prices and what should I be looking for in a decent model worth my buck?
    • Yes, thank you very much for the tip. Yes, I will use it, I'm already using it in the new compilation of the code with updated sprites, check it out in the next post. I especially want to thank  PAC-MAN-RED for the incredible sprites they make available for free. I wonder how much hard work and hours he spent to maintain fidelity in so few pixels. It's not easy to build something like this. His post page for anyone who wants to check out his incredible work.
    • Jesus, I change the AC/DC Adapter, also I did the test on the 5 ataris that i have with the same result, I have 2 ataris Jr that don't have the video mod, but is the same result.    I checked it point by point and the solder points looks good, also i did the test with different firmwares and the result is the same, after plus logo (+) the screen goes black    Any ideas?    Many Thanks in advance! LB
    • … nice job by the repairer.   How’s the rest of the lo(o)t going?
    • It finally happened. Someone blew the fuse on 2 USB-C adapters. They were using it on an 800XL and 130XE with FujiNet and Sys-Check 2.2. So, this makes me wonder what a good value would be for a fuse. Has anyone done any testing on a "maxed" out Atari to see how much power it can actually draw with a bunch of addons / upgrades?
    • Does it stay on the info screen? Or just a black background? On the info screen does arrow keys work to adjust the left/right up/down and then after adjusting did you press enter?   It should NOT be using any PAL settings. Did you try a regular floppy on the Geneve or ide or Scsi? Wondering if it's a problem with dsr disk access?   Finally, how many colors does it say if 002 then the graphic you trying to load has been generated by a newer GIF program that is not following the old original gif89a specs.   I found at first when retesting this program it wouldn't load images I saved in paint.net but it would load ones saved by good old Microsoft Windows Paint. And only after I added the lowcolor plugin to paint.net did it generate gif files that this viewer understands without errors.
