I liked Joe Atari ...Just kinda cool like Who's that?  That's Joe Atari man!  His name's Joe, he's a fan of Atari,...

But the new name, I mean if don't overenunciate  and say it with gusto and extreme balls,  while shaking a fist,  maybe even half a death metal vocal like I just joined Amon Amarth onstage, seems like it comes out wrong,  ya know?   Don't get me wrong I do like that about it,  in fact maybe I should enjoy the experience oh also I keep calling you Neon Wrath!  (Pronounced NEEEEEONN WRATH!!! but yeah,...Looked right at it too!)...Thought of my cool Plymouth NEON  then that cool Chrysler Concept car that Charlie Sheen drove in The WRAITH and just kept mispronouncing it...It's Busby the Bobcat all over again.

But hey,  What I meant to say was if you're happy I'm happy!  NEON WRAITH!!!!!
      4. Lord Mushroom

I am not a fan of changing names. People who knew you suddenly won´t anymore. For the same reason, I am not a fan of changing images either, although that does much less damage.

    • They are apparently planning the official release will be Windows/Mac/Linux, so unless you’re wanting to beta test it should just be a matter of patience.   Lessons have been learned and the new 7800 re-release carts will be PAL in PAL territories according to what’s been posted in the big thread about new 7800 games/accessories.
    • Any new 2600 games will likely be NTSC only, clearly they work on original PAL machines albeit with perhaps some differences in colours and speed. This could change but tbh I think the majority of people buying new games are for 2600+ and why subject them to an inferior version (in most cases)   7800 games shipping at the moment are NTSC to the US and PAL versions to Europe and Australia.    Regarding the PAL NTSC swap. I've had three people ask for this and actually only one person do the actual swap. So feel free to DM me and you can be the second person in the world with a PAL Bezerk Enhanced Edition and or Mr Run and Jump.
    • Welcome Zeptari, always great to see a new player join in here
    • I haven't rememberd about it Unfortunatelly I don't have source code
    • If you don't mind painting your prints, Painter's Touch 'Capucino' satin brown is supposedly a close match.
    • I'm not familiar with Intellivision or Colecovision development, but I'm guessing they would also require you to learn an assembly language.  That said, the nice thing about developing games for old systems is that there's usually a wealth of tools and information available to you.  Maybe there's a higher level language like batari Basic or some kind of middleware solution like GB Studio.  I wound up working on 2600 stuff just because I was inspired by all of the cool stuff the AtariAge community has put out.  That and they have a proper forum with loads of information, and I can usually find the answers I'm looking for.  (And that last part is really key for me.)   The way I got started was largely thanks to SpiceWare.  He posted a series of tutorials here on the AtariAge forums.  (Random Terrain also collected all of these tutorials and posted them on his website if you prefer that format.)  I would recommend downloading all of the examples and using a browser add-on like Save Page WE to save each web page itself.  The third tutorial, Score & Timer display, has an image regarding playfield timing.  Download a copy.  You will refer back to this image often!  6502.org has an excellent reference sheet for opcodes.  Download a copy!  I literally keep this open whenever I'm working on a 2600 game.  Download the Stella Programmer's Guide too!  There's the PDF version which has some useful diagrams and an HTML version which is far more navigable.  DASM's documentation is also pretty great.  I kept both of those documents open all of the time early on, and I still refer back to them now.  Lastly, make use of the Stella emulator's debugger!  You can set breakpoints and step through your code one operation at a time.  (DASM can also generate files Stella can use to make the disassembled code more readable.)   Of course, this is all assuming you have prior programming experience.  If you don't, you'll probably want to start with a high level language like Java or Python and then move on to something lower like C++ or (presumably) batari Basic.  An integrated development environment is also a really nice thing to have.  There's Atari Dev Studio but I've not used it yet so I can't speak to its ease of use or how up to date it is.  (I subject myself to using a combination of Notepad++ and batch files because I hate myself. 🤣)
    • ... speaking of time, that reminds me:   Steeplechase - 1:11   Currently on the road, so Ill post a screenshot later this afternoon.
    • I agree, the comments of "Skyten" are funny indeed! he immediately reminded me of Data in Star Trek.   Afaik is it the same on the CD, after saving/stopping your game, next time you continue the comical mode is absent.
    • As I was reading that other thread, I was already thinking 'not enough heat'. I was hot-airing an encoder chip (just a DIL, obviously) off an A600 yesterday and I thought I'd try a lower heat setting and it was torture. Cranked it back up to 400 degrees and all was well. Mac boards - being multi-layered - sink an enormous amount of heat. I'm still surprised the pads came off, though; perhaps the first nand pads essentially ended up being slow cooked?   That's a tough lesson, anyway. But it hopefully only happens once.   PS: Dosdude is great. I love his videos - constantly surprising what he manages to accomplish (I nearly said 'what he pulls off' there, but thought better of it).
    • I use that problem to my advantage. For most of my game, the button is continuously pressed, releasing it only to move the shield, and pressing it down again when the shield stops in the position I anticipate a cobra bomb will drop, and occasionally rapid release-press to nudge the shield in one direction or the other. Unlike other paddle games, this title seems to warrant only slight rotation of the wheel to play effectively .. probably 15 degrees or less in either direction ... its crazy sensitive. Since TG has added the Atari 2600+ catalegory to their leaderboards and Id like to post an inaugural score there, I'll likely be posting a video to YouTube by later this afternoon with multiple cameras showing the gameplay in one frame and my paddle controller use in another frame. If I can get around to it in time for it to be helpful, I'll post the URL to the video and tag you. It's not a lot of time, but perhaps it will be enough time to be at least a little helpful. Maybe it will give you some ideas 👍
