I finished uploading my August 2022 gaming videos playlist. That month I played a lot of Sonic. First, taking up the most videos I finished up my first playthrough of the launch version of Sonic Origins, then played the Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit fan game and Esrael's then-current version of his Sonic Delta Reloaded hack, plus I started the Donkey Kong Country: The Trilogy fan game and made more progress in Pokemon Yellow.

Why did Johnny Rotten and Bananarama never go on tour together?  They could have called it - the Rotten Banana Tour!
      1. aeberbach

Banarama probably had too much artistic integrity to work with him...
      2. John Stamos Mullet

Because Bananarama only went on one proper world tour for 6 months at the beginning of 1989 ending in May 1989, and didn't tour again until 1999/2000's. Johnny Rotten was in studio recording PIL's album until October 1989.

    • Yes. Since you also have a SIDE3 cartridge, can you confirm whther the U1MB reset issue still occurs when SIDE3 is NOT connected to the machine?   Dependant on the above, I'd be inclined to suggest a Phi2 timing issue (usually easily fixed), or an installation issue of some kind. Problems with U1MB when that's the only upgrade in the machine are rare.   I'd also be interested to know which JED version your SIDE3 reports (see the info menu in the loader), since I recently encountered a SIDE 3.2 cartridge purchased at RetroLemon in the UK which had a 'GoWin' CPLD (Lattice substitute of which I was already familiar) and a JED with version number 2.3 (which I had never seen before) dated Feburary 2024. The back of the cartridge looks like this: My own SIDE 3.2 cartridge (with GoWin CPLD) has JED 1.3 and works perfectly well, but the 'JED 2.3' cartridge refused to work properly in any machine, even those preemptively stabilised with 74F08 in place of 74LS08.   Regarding U1MB itself, I'd also be interested to know what brand of SRAM is on the board, and whether it looks like this:
    • Here's about 10 minutes of raw footage from the last time I was at Replay in Tarpon Springs. It'll give you a good idea of the sights and sounds.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wmgfFFKFx8
    • Yeah you and I are on the same page here - the Golden Age of Consoles had "arcade at home" that just lost its luster. 7800 is an interesting case too, with its busted developmental delays. Like both it and NES had like, Galaga and Donkey Kong and Xevious, but who could really care at that point? And then all those Atari Flashback-like things with the same damn set of games over and over, and/or Williams/Midway.
    • Here's a real life code snippet on how to check the position of a moving sprite. It uses VSBR (VDP Single Byte Read) from my VDPUTIL library. In testing I had this a repeat/until loop checking for a destination position and it worked really well and was reasonably fast.   set_sprite(sprnum, car[sprnum]); (* start sprite moving *) salloc := 3072 + (sprnum * 4); (* find location of sprite entry in the Sprite Attribute List *) vsbr(salloc, y); (* get y position *) vsbr(salloc + 1, x); (* get x position *)   Below is the listing of VDPUTIL ready to assemble.
    • That's awesome but I feel like the scale of this vs then is like... a high quality speed boat vs the Titanic... I think there's a similar thing happening in pinball, and while I support it whole-heartedly, those industries are orders of magnitude less than what was (and like with the non-Barcade Arcades that are now just ticket-dispenseries, some of it is still a nostalgia play, like "giant space invaders" or "giant Pac-Man") Swinging back to the 80s... maybe it's important is that when it did swing back (mostly via NES), it was a different vibe of game. HSW talks about how he worked to evolve Atari's "easy to start, hard to master" into "hard to start, hard to master" - figuring people were more invested and you could stop trying to challenge them 3 minutes at a time, and give them a longer term challenging than milking a quarter, or reaching for a score. But NES modulated back a bit - "Nintendo Hard" was still a factor, but the idea was "easy to start, hard to get to the end"  (And I'd say that attitude persisted until games had to compete with Internet for people's focus and attention) - and that required the technical advance to dole out content and game world as a reward. So a lot of the crash was focused on "arcade at home" mentality. Arcades took a hit - but could still offer cutting edge tech, but those consoles and the types of game they were feeling old and busted, so things shifted to home computers until Nintendo trailblazed And I remember that - like I *knew* the C64 likely had more raw horsepower than the NES (just do side by side comparisions for like, "Skate or Die") BUT - no one was making a "Metroid" or "Zelda 2" for it Come to think of, the black-covered "Official Nintendo Gamer's Guide" was probably a HUUUUUUUGE sales booster for NES- take a look at https://archive.org/details/The_Official_Nintendo_Players_Guide_1987 those little maps just grabbed my 7th grader heart and never let go - nothing at that level for the C64 or Atari 8bits -and once I got that book it was  the only way I could have beaten Metroid and Zelda 2 (in fact I still don't trust Metroidvania as a genre - if I don't have a book for it how will I know where all the damn missiles are 🙂 ) And man, beating the original Mega Man (3 lives, and no save system) was like my crowning accomplishment.
    • I should also add, the RTC of the Ultimate 1MB similarly resets when the power is turned off as well. Clock & settings stay OK on the Side3 cart.  THanks!
    • If you’re into artwork, it’s definitely worth a look and a purchase IMO.
    • love it. Synth sound is great. is there a downloadable xex for this track?
    • I wish I could edit the title or add HT. But I can't see the options to do so...
    • Hi there. Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask for help. I've been reading on this for days & this site seems appropriate. After a few months delay I was successful in install my Ultimate 1MB into my NTSC Atari 800XL. I was successful in getting the firmware flashed to 4.2 and the Side3 plugin working so that it interoperates fine with my S3 cartridge.    One quirk I am still having, I cannot get any settings to save in the Ultimate 1MB. Every time I powercycle the computer, the Ultimate looses all its settings. This happens even if I try to change profile (I usually use profile 1).   I can use the device OK if I set it up & then just cold boot via the menu or warm boot via the reset, but as soon as I loose power to the computer, the settings revert and I have to set up PBI and everything back up again.   I did check the CR2023 battery, I took it out & made sure its getting good contact. I did not swap it yet, but it reads a solid 3.3volts so that seems OK to me. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Thanks in advance & thanks for such an amazing project!   -Pork
