There was a certain "zen" to coding ON the original 8-bit hardware (with key-click ON on an original 800), back in the very early 80s ... but between MADS, CA65, WUDSN and VSC w/ add-ins (inc. Wine and Altirra) ... things are MUCH faster and smoother ...

Time to decide what to write (my "Oregon Trail" dream still fresh-in-mind ...)

Not a spokesman, but my new X-Arcade Tankstick Max with the added spinners is pretty great.  Though nowadays a lot pricier than it used to be.  I think I got my first one for something like $120 during a sale.

I also have one sitting here waiting for me to swap it out with my old one. I can't wait.

I put a Raspberry Pi in mine with plug for hdmi & AC.
      3. glazball

After playing with it a while, I'm curious if you think the spinners are in a tricky spot to reach?  It looks like you have to keep you spinner hand lifted over the other buttons to operate it.
      4. thanatos

I haven't had an issue with the location.  I'm using the left side, spinner with my right hand and buttons with the left.  Not sure if it matters but also sitting down at a desk.

    • I've used an AtariMax SIO2PC USB adapter with their APE and ProSystem softwares, as well as a homemade SIO2USB cable I made using a DTech FTDI USB to TTL Serial 5V Adapter Cable that I ordered from Amazon, link below, using respeQt. I've used these with everything from Windows 7 through Windows 11, all 64-bit versions, and never had any trouble whatsoever. I'm not a Linux user and have zero experience with it, so I can't even hazard a guess as to what your issues may be, but I can confirm that these devices and softwares work fine with "modern" systems and OSes made within the last fifteen years, at least in general. I know I've heard of others using at least some of these with Linux and Mac systems, either natively, or through a Windows emulator, so I know it can be done, but again, I have no direct experience with it.   DTech FTDI USB to TTL Serial 5V Adapter Cable 6 Pin 0.1 inch Pitch Female Socket Header UART IC FT232RL Chip Windows 11 10 8 7 Linux MAC OS (6ft, Black)
    • It behaves like an Odyssey 2....no different startup screens or graphic changes. After removing the bottom, it appears similar to the other Odyssey 2...with that said, it is adequately shielded. Eventually will recap and maybe a composite mod but  since the keyboard ribbon cable lamination is already separated, didn't want to start mutiple disassembles but will post when I do.
    • A CIB game arrived today. However, I'm not sure you can technically call it 'complete'. Photos later...
    • so which one is the best version, as there are both the same game? Opcode Goonies or Collectorvision Gooninuff ?
    • Kids.  They don't know any better.  My Son is now 17 but he's had a switch since day one and always thought the joycons were crap.  This controller has replaceable D-pads!  It comes with the standard cross type and a round type.
    • I've found a reference in the "Archives Catalog of the Strong" in a collection of Atari Coin-Op Division materials. (This is only a catalog, the documents are in a library in Manhattan, if anyone wishes to research. 🙂) The collection contains documents referring to a "Moose Brain", "Mouse Brain" and "Mouth Brain" which may or may not be the same thing. I guess it was some widget developed by Atari for use in coin-ops.
    • I now have a PAL Amiga 500, and testing some of the monitors I have on hand with PAL VGA out from a buffered VGA adapter:   Asus VE248Q yes 576 Acer V196HQL no (input not supported) Lenovo LT1913pA yes Dell E2414H yes Acer B246HL yes reports 1440x288 Dell P2219H yes Dell E170Sb Rev A01 yes   So at least the ones I've tried, most work and look good.  Interlace still is ugly, but that's expected.
    • I believe the Color TV Games 6 and 15 (?) are more common, but also are Pong variants, though sold by Nintendo. Probably you can't pick and choose what to buy, but have to look for decent offers in the places you visit. After many years, I get the feeling that even Japanese people are starting to care about their technological history, not only looking forward at what's next, meaning there is a domestic collector market.   Edit: OTOH, Wikipedia suggests that the four Nintendo consoles sold 1M + 1M + 500K + 500K = 3 million in total, while it estimates only 150K consoles of Atari and Sears combined Pong consoles were sold. That seems like a very low number as you see various Atari Pong consoles for sale almost all the time. It suggests that the entire Coleco Telstar series sold 1 million.
    • Yes it is, good syntax. I don't worry about the error messages because there is nothing that I can do to make the conversion tool work any better. I have tried multiple "versions" of the same game from multiple / all available sources. If none work, then the details as to why they do not work are irrelevant.
