The Mirage, one of the definitive mega-resorts of Las Vegas, is closing down.  Wow...Las Vegas sure has changed.

        Ditto the Tropicana.

The last few times I've been to Las Vegas it's evident that tourism never really recovered from COVID.  Fewer machines are occupied, it's been relatively easy to get a hotel room, and comps and cheap buffets are essentially a thing of the past.  Even the gaming areas designed to appeal to Chinese players are pretty much empty.

There seems to be a definite shift happening from attracting people on the basis of 24/7 hedonism and over to being event-oriented - the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, events at the Sphere, the new stadium being built, etc.  To be fair, this has been happening for a while, but it really seems to have picked up over the last 3 years or so.

Could it be that young people have zero interest in blowing their money on computer and table games that they know are set up to where the house has the edge in nearly every single game there, and don't enjoy being around greedy simpletons who don't understand that concept?

    • Technically, Star Raiders for the 2600 was on Xbox 360 by way of Game Room (And if we count backwards compatibility, Atari Anthology runs great on the 360).   Good sale though. I'm going to buy a bunch of stuff tonight, although only three of them were on my list before the sale (Both Atari games and Space Invaders IG). Hoping that more of my want list goes on sale in the next two waves of sale additions, including Haunted House and Warlords (The 2012 release, not the older Stainless Games port and remake of the classic).   And hopefully some DLC goes on sale, too. Kind of silly that Space Invaders IG is $1.50 for instance, but the three expansion packs (the base game is essentially only the first 25% of the game) are all three dollars each. So it's still going to cost $9 more to get it all since the unlocks aren't on sale.   I had dismissed these four Atari XBLA games when new even though they were only $5 each, but the success of the Atari 50 remakes and the Recharged line in more recent times has me wanting to check out this brief fling by Atari SA at making new games in classic Atari franchises. And at $1 a pop (or even if I end up paying the full $5 for Haunted House and Warlords), there sure isn't much at risk if they end up the duds that I thought they probably were 10+ years ago. And while it's not listed in the sale, Panzer General is 99 cents right now. https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/product/panzer-general/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802584109b4

    • Liking this game a lot more now that I’m getting a handle on it. Thanks for the tips @ZilchSr! Cramps up my hands a bit, and I still wish the controls were different, but I’m happy with my improvement   Yoooooo Jooooooe - 13,190   I got better at Steeplechase, but I still can’t beat it. At least I’ve been able to beat the computer. @Vocelli, checking that in order to get a bonus point, you have to beat 3:00. That would make sense, but just in case you’re handing out a free point for trying…lol
    • Thaks again and I'll try that tonight.  Looking through Random Terrain's site and this page:   https://github.com/chunkypixel/atari-dev-studio/tree/master/out/bin/compilers/bB/includes   I might not even have to change the default numbers but rather just a font that I'll likely never use!
    • I recall Kaboom! being very popular back then and being a surprise hit...
    • I love looking at the box art comparisons between regions. Usually NA gets the worst version of the art, with EUR usually getting either the NA/JP version of the box, but with additional screenshots on the cover.   I don't really examine the copy and screenshots on the back of the boxes, but that too can vary wildly from region to region. An example of where we got the better version of the box is Magic Sword.  The SFC version does features all the companions you can free from the locked prisons.Your main character doesn't stand out from the characters around him though. Everything seems too red, and there isn't much contrast. They don't feature any of their weapons, or dramatic action poses, but instead are just staring blankly back at you. The title font also doesn't seem to match the in-game title, or promo art.    The art on the NA version more closely matches the Arcade side-art (Japanese Arcade flyers match the SFC art). They dropped the Moai (more of a Konami thing) and added in the final boss. I'm guessing the artist didn't get the memo that the main hero has a pony tail in the marquee. The title font perfectly matches. He does seem more roided-up and constipated than the Arcade. Way more action in the scene, with the lightning flashes and glowing sword. The characters do come off a little more plastic looking, but I feel it's an improvement over the flat colored pencil look. (EU version not pictured, as it's just the NA version with a screenshot on the cover) Arcade (NA) side-art.
    • Here's Quiz Meitantei Neo & Geo ~Quiz Daisousasen Part 2~
    • SOLVED!   Yes, I use a 2amp power block.   The problem was that Pin 2 was making contact with Pin 4 in the Power Cube. I happened to find it by checking for continuity on pins where there shouldn't be any. Given the confined space within the cube, having things touch when they shouldn't after surrounding components in a small protective case is easy to do. The fix was to cut Pin 2. The 800XL booted up to a yellow screen. Then I powered off, pressed down on the chips (all of them are in sockets), and powered the system back on. It booted straight to a "READY" prompt. Time to clean the chips and sockets!   I communicated and worked with the Power Cube provider during the entire process, and he was very helpful. He's sending me a new unit at no cost even though I said he didn't have to do that since it's working now. Great customer service!   Thank you for everyone's guidance!   Joe
