Fletcher Reede: You scratched my car! Tow Yard Employee: Where? Fletcher Reede: [indicating with his hands] Right there! Tow Yard Employee: Oh... That was already there. Fletcher Reede: You -- LIAR! You know what I am going to do about this? Tow Yard Employee: What? Fletcher Reede: Nothing! Because if I take it to small claims court, it will just drain 8 hours out of my life and you probably won't show up and even if I got the judgment you'd just stiff me anyway; so what I am going to do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk, and then bend over and take it up the tailpipe! Tow Yard Employee: [tossing the keys to Fletcher] You've been here before, haven't ya?

I finished uploading my August 2022 gaming videos playlist. That month I played a lot of Sonic. First, taking up the most videos I finished up my first playthrough of the launch version of Sonic Origins, then played the Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit fan game and Esrael's then-current version of his Sonic Delta Reloaded hack, plus I started the Donkey Kong Country: The Trilogy fan game and made more progress in Pokemon Yellow.

Why did Johnny Rotten and Bananarama never go on tour together?  They could have called it - the Rotten Banana Tour!
      1. aeberbach

Banarama probably had too much artistic integrity to work with him...
      2. John Stamos Mullet

Because Bananarama only went on one proper world tour for 6 months at the beginning of 1989 ending in May 1989, and didn't tour again until 1999/2000's. Johnny Rotten was in studio recording PIL's album until October 1989.

    • What I hope Atari do with time, - after getting all components aligned and quality-checked on many fronts, is to release a very powerful new modern VCS (3-4 Ghz) with a full Polymega-station (Base + all modules built in + expansion-ports), released as the Retro-gamers All-in-one Hardware unit. That is: the retrogamers equvivalent to modern gaming PCs.   It would cost alot, but also have enormous, or at least particular capacity, beyond normal PCs or other retro-consoles.   Building a e-shop with retro games would make it easy to get many titles, and the hardware part would make it possible to play, well, most famous retro cartridges and discs.   They could sell it as a ‘family of units’ with different price-classes.   Atari should contact several classic companies or licensing-reproduction companies, who’d make it their task to make licensed reproductions which they would sell as collections.   These should be available when they’d release such a line-up of Super VCR-PolyMega-Stations.   Imho
    • So I also exhibited profound stupidity, I decided to correct the soldering on the first Pokey of the two resistor networks and the 0.1uF cap for the opamp with the ugly blob that I left. Mostly because of my OCD. That turned into a three hour ugly  battle using the iron and the heat gun. After the first correction I got a buzzing noise on the stereo channels and no reflowing or braid supported solder sucking was helping. Multimeter suggested a short between two legs of the resistor network (not knowing which one as they are connected 1-1), but also otherwise giving weird readings on the whole output circuit. In the end I had to take them off fully, to discover there was indeed a deeply hidden bridge under the 20k one, clean up, use some paste and solder on two new ones (still had left one of each) with a heat gun. Not surprisingly, I also lost one of the unconnected lonely pads, let it rest in peace whereever it is (probably somewhere waiting to make a surprise short circuit one day again). That was not the end, iron and solder was still needed after this, and I had to purposely build a bridge on the ground side of the 20k resistor network, because for some reason some of the pins were not getting contact. I finally won, and apologies for a long post, but I really had to vent this out.   But that's not all. I think this is the weakest link on the board and perhaps it could or should be fixed. You @foft had a problem there, I had a huge one (own stupidity triggered), and on my second Pokey the resistor networks were also dancing and required attention, not to mention that my dry run soldering also created a bridge exactly there. I am thinking either the soldering pad footprint is too narrow for these (pads sticking to the inside down under the chip, rather than the outside, the bridge formed under there and there was no way to take it out) and should be widened. Or, since only three out of four resitor network channels are used, go with three single 0402 resistors. Brief look at the board design suggests it might be possible.
    • ok, thanks i will take a look at that version later on this week, and see how to set it up for my development needs. i didn't know there was a new typescript design, makes sense now, as there no mention of it in the first post on this thread. so much catching up to do, what happens when you miss a few years reading daily here on this forum!
    • I wouldn't throw those shirts away either, they are already collectors items.
    • I took a look this weekend at the 4k bas file now that I have at least a starting idea of what I'm looking at and I see the code from the sprite website you posted does indeed take up alot of space like you said.   As long as you're not actually changing the colors line by line from animation pose to pose, it only needs to be entered once and not with every frame like the autogenerated code does.   When things drastically change like with jumping or the bones/collision, that's obviously a different story.   I've only got four 5 animation poses total (three for the hero and two for the placeholder enemy) in my first game and I'm already down to 2200 bytes free without any real work beyond just putting them on the screen.  No attacks, no actions beyond jumping for the hero, no collision, etc.   It fills up fast!   I just took out the redundant color info and left the color values for when f=10 (instead of repeating it up to 100) for both the main character and the zombie and it now has 592 bytes free to add other things you may have skipped due to lack of space. • Gary from OPA, thanks for the advice about the bypass caps.  I had previously added a 10uF tantalum cap on the breadboard power bus, but had forgotten to put bypass caps on the chips.  They should be the little yellow thing sticking up among the rat's nest of wires.   Matthew180, thanks for the links and info about breadboards.  I spent a couple of hours this morning looking in to it.  Most fascinating!   As I mentioned above, I think I found the problem. K-R.
