    • OLD CS1

The short story: Paramount releases "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" on DVD.  It was apparently mastered by a summer intern using off-the-shelf software, resulting in progressive scans of interlaced sources, not de-interlaced and shit quality.  Two of the discs in the set are unreadable so I resort to alternate methods of acquisition.  I find someone has run the DS9 set through an AI up-scaler to produce a 720p collection in fantastic quality!

Really, Paramount?  Would that have been so difficult for you to do and sell to us at the MSRP of $69.99?
      1. SpiceWare

You might want to pick up the original DVD sets of the individual seasons instead of the crappy complete series.  Doing that solved the ripping problems for me, plus the file size for each episode is 2x larger than from the complete series.  More info here:

      2. OLD CS1

@SpiceWare  Maybe the cheaper mastering is why the complete sets cost less than the individual seasons.  So damned annoying.  I have stayed away from buying individual seasons because I cannot guarantee I can get full sets and it is usually more expensive that way.

I did not have such good luck with "Futurama" or "Family Guy," as well as a couple of other series.  Even the individual seasons of these were encoded poorly.  Plus, the DVD-on-Demand stuff is just garbage, in my experience.  I make full rips of those because I expect the media to die any time.
      3. SoundGammon

On Paramount they are running HD remasters of the earlier seasons of Frasier. They are in 16x9 format and it is basically they just "zoom in" to fill the screen. Not bad, but the sides, all four, and get cut off in the process. Also on cable, one of the channels is running Murder She Wrote using the same technique, easy to tell there because you can see some of the lettering cut off at the bottom where they put in the info of guest stars and writer & director stuff.
      4. bent_pin

Yeah, @SpiceWare has it correct. The original DVD set is where it's at for DS9 and Fraiser too. I have them and the rips are so much better. If I really want to watch 16x9, I just use the hardware zoom on the TV. Gotta use that fancy-dan FPGA for something, but normally I prefer 5x4 as I remember them originally. This is a retro site after all.

    • Imagine if Mike Myers played Michael Myers, and he killed people in a Cat in the Hat costume.
    • honestly i kinda agree, but there are a lot of cool games on it and i think the marketing was almost spot on in the early days, somewhat similar to the SEGA ads of the early 90's and less like nintendos, but a BIG issue was lack of third party backing for the Lynx, Game Gear had many third party titles and Multiplatforms, Lynx had very few non-atari titles, one of note was Desert Strike but it seemed like by 1993-96 they were too focused on the jaguar and thus the Lynx laid abandoned whilst SEGA scooped up remaining gamers for the time with Game Gear being as the #2 handheld of its time, i mean honest shame, by the mid-late 90's i could see the Lynx doing excellent demakes of many of the 5th Gen games that made it or tried to make it on Game Boy (or forbid... Game.Com) but it just seemed like with the lynx... You'd better like Atari Games and nothing else...
    • 12 year old me definitely had a crush on that alien commander. Which is why I now like Swayzak.
    • I kinda wanna see what the 1977-1979/1980 era CEC locations had in terms of games, and not animatronics. I only know the OG location had Pong, Sprint, and Starship 1 (AHHHHHHH!!) They would also have Puppy Pong on tables while you waited for your cheap pizza. They had a Cheese Maze (to channel your inner Jerry Mouse) and that damn orange spinning ride (kiddie cyclotron.) Yes, they did have animatronics in portraits, but I don't care about the animatronics! I only like the GAMES!!
    • All good.  We were exploring outside examples and how they were unable to solve things without complex workarounds that at this point no one here is looking to get into.  I was hoping for a simple solution but the logic of the INTV controllers just doesn't quite match the needs of an invertible pinout.  A new thread on this would be great though.
    • oh lmfao, i mean yeah i guess for the general public, BUT YOU KNOW... YOU KNOW THERES A GROUP OUT THERE THAT IS INTO THE DR SEUESS LOOKIN AHH MFs IN KNIGHT ON THE TOWN!!! also lol, i can see that, also i meant some of the early Mature Horror titles like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Halloween. Most M for Mature games wont even dare to mention a dead child whilst Halloween just has decapitated kids for daaaaaays, by god i was spooked by that AVGN episode because of the old guy in it...
