Teaching someone how to operate a clutch pedal is very difficult. It's something I don't even think about and I don't even know how to explain how I do it, it comes so naturally after 20 years of driving
      1. Wayler

Maybe start with the premise the left foot should always use the clutch pedal when the right foot isn't using the gas pedal and go from there.
      2. Atarian7

Ever have to double clutch?  I drove a truck for a few years.  In training they said it would be harder to learn if we already drove with a clutch in a car.  I don't know if that's true. I picked up
on it pretty quickly.  They called me "smooth".
      3. SpiceWare

When my dad attempted to teach my sister to drive a stick she got so upset with him that she got out of the pickup truck and walked home.

I was tasked with teaching her and figured out her biggest issue was to get the truck moving without stalling.  If she managed to get into 2nd she could get to the higher gears without much trouble.

My solution was to take her to a new neighborhood that was being built, so we were on a new road without any traffic, then telling her "stop" and "go" as we went down the road. She had it down within a half hour.

    • Mayflash Fighting Stick F101, in DINPUT/PS3 mode. I had to rewire the stick because the L/R buttons were backwards, so the button layout here may make no sense to anyone else --- but at least HOME and SELECT work.   03000000242f00003700000011010000,MAYFLASH Arcade Fightstick F101,a:b2,b:b5,x:b4,y:b7,back:b8,guide:b9,start:b12,leftshoulder:b6,rightshoulder:b1,dpup:-a1,dpdown:+a1,dpleft:-a0,dpright:+a0,lefttrigger:b0,righttrigger:b3,platform:Linux,
    • Replacement 8bitdo Retro BT dongle arrived, tested using handwired adapter cable, same result: it powers up, pairs, but no response to button presses or sticks/dpad. I went ahead and for completeness (knowing there'd be no reason this would work any differently) did the jumper mod on the dongle itself (see pics) with again the same result.   This replacement dongle board has the same markings and mfgr date as the one I previously just tested and returned: Rev 5, May 2023.     Unless i've missed some important interface/activation to use these with Atari systems, the latest 8bitdo Retro bluetooth dongles for Sega being sold on Amazon - in my current experience(s) testing them - *do not* work with Atari even after performing either the dongle mod nor an equivalent simple diy wiring scheme (found in threads on this forum).   The two dongles/samples both have the same stamps/dates: "MDDR 83FA V5 2247" with a 5/2023 (board?) mfgr date.    I'd try a 3rd party adapter like the Adladdin but there's no reason to think it could work - the dongle is effectively a brick without a Sega system.    Any ideas or considerations, I'm happy to hear.
    • That worked too.  @JasonACT if you would like to see tests using other values, let me know.
    • Adapter board iinstallation is very simple - just between the Sophia and the MB .Without soldering. After installation you get entire 256 color palette, but only via RGB and DVI. A composite output will be a luminance only. PAL color is possible but requires a system crystal replacement with 14.1875MHz one and several minor changes on the MB.  I don't know a special SECAM software. Payment details on PM.
    • Thanks, this is my first time using applewin. Will I still be able to write in BASIC once I download the disk image and boot into it?
    • It is never safe to write to the VDP with interrupts enabled.  You need to have a `LIMI 0` sometime before you call `BLWP @VMBW`.
    • I got an opportunity to play @opcode’s Time Pilot Arcade today courtesy of Ed himself and I will say that as good as it looks in the video, the gameplay feels perfect. Buttery smooth and I had to ask twice if this thing was really running on a Colecovision (despite the fact that I was seated in front of it).
    • Not sure what you mean. AppleWin doesn't supply any disk images that I'm aware of. You need to supply those yourself, then mount/insert one into drive 1, and it should boot the disk.
    • Yes, they run through the same return lines.
    • This arrived today. For £30/$40 it's...pretty good. Cheaper than buying a CRT T.V and the games look much better to composite, which I was using. On the plus side the games look really crisp and clear apart from some kind of random 'smoothing or other effect' going on. Sometimes sprites on games have like a jail bar effect, only for a second thou. For the price I recommend it thou. 👍🏻
