That we don't rent movies anymore got me thinking.  What was your favorite video rental place?

I mean yes Blockbuster had the latest movies (New Releases), but once I wanted some old black and white sci-fi from the 50's and Blockbuster had none.

      Anyway what was your favorite?
      1. GoldLeader

For a while in the 90's there was one about 6 blocks from my house, sort of catercorner from a big ol Bockbuster,  (which was fine for new releases and normal hours).  It was open 24 hours and it might have been called Night Owl Video.  It was dimly lit, not covered in florescent lights, and had stuff they weren't supposed to rent (Faces of Death, Shocking things caught on film,  uncensored Jerry Springers, etc.)...And it seemed like If I went there between 2 and 4AM,  I always knew everybody in there!  Mostly people in local bands and stuff...Good Times!
      2. CPUWIZ

Probably in the early 80's in Hamburg, the guy would rent bootlegs from the U.S. under the table, 24 hour place and super 80's grungy.

      2. GoldLeader

I got 1 minute 32 seconds in before I gave up.  He seemed to be saying we still love movies and TV shows but we now have unlimited choices,  we don't go to Blockbuster anymore, we have all the old ones and all the new ones,  we stream those choices onto different sets in different ways...Every single thing he said is different now and  yet he contends nothing's changed.   Hmmm...How about this:   The only thing that's stayed the same IS CHANGE!

    • I would have thought they would work fine, I use ICD Pro both on a "real" hard drive and a USB stick via NetUSBEE and they (mostly) work fine on my STE.   What ST/version of TOS are you using.
    • Interesting, this version is slightly different, instead of the "LDA $0728,Y" / B9 28 07 at offset 205 (hex), which loads the divisor from the RAM table, it contains "LDA #$0A, NOP" / A9 0A EA at this offset: So change offset 206h to 08 (or 06 or which divisor you like).   You could also patch the other ATRs with "A9 08 EA" at offset 205h - it looks like that would be a universal method for the known ATRs so far.   so long,   Hias
    • This is rather off-topic, and warrants its own separate forum thread.
    • I think it is the processor related bugs... No problem when I used option  "threads=1"...
    • When I use the debugger in Altirra, whenever I access D1: or D2: I get a stream of messages (100's) in the Console (see below) This obviously gets in the way of normal monitoring, is there a way to turn this off ? It never used to do this, I think I may have accidentally turned it on, but for the life of me I can't see where to turn it off   DISKEMU: Stepper phases now: 2C FDC: Physical track is now 4.5 DISKEMU: Stepper phases now: 34 FDC: Physical track is now 5.0 DISKEMU: Stepper phases now: 38 FDC: Physical track is now 5.5 DISKEMU: Stepper phases now: 1C
    • The problem with your OS stability is really not caused by the Rasta Converter. As the others hinted, it's a symptom of some other problems you have with either hardware or software.
    • Hey! I found out! Maybe i did... It is the processor! I tried use magic words: "threads=1" first time... Now RC has no problems! In past I always used "threads=4" or "threads=3"... I use i7 @ GNU/Linux
    • Ah, yeah, I forgot about the old Stage 1 demo/beta. That should suffice.
    • Thanks for all the input. I now have a working solution that looks like this:   It has a float as input (43,1232). After a trip back and forth, the integer value is returned as a float (43). For good measure I stored the integer value in FAC to address >A800 before conversion back to a float as a check.   The part I was missing was the CIF routine. I am a bit curious about that one. I can find the CFI routine on page 51 in the TI/99 INTERN book. But I don't see the CIF routine. Can anyone point it out to me, please.   100 CALL INIT 110 CALL LOAD("DSK3.C8.OBJ") 120 CALL LINK("START",43.1232,A) 130 PRINT A 140 N=VAL(>"A800") 150 CALL PEEK(N,H) 160 CALL PEEK(N+1,L) 170 PRINT H;L        DEF  START                                                                 NUMREF EQU  >200C                        NUMASG EQU  >2008                        FAC    EQU  >834A                        CIF    EQU  >0020                        CFI    EQU  >12B8                        XMLLNK EQU  >2018                                                                 SAVR11 BSS  2                                                                     START  MOV  R11,@SAVR11                                                                  CLR  R0                                  LI   R1,1                                BLWP @NUMREF      * GET PARM1                                                     BLWP @XMLLNK      * FLOAT -> INT         DATA CFI                                                                          MOV  @FAC,@>A800  * STORE INT                                                     BLWP @XMLLNK                             DATA CIF          * INT -> FLOAT  .                                               CLR  R0                                  LI   R1,2                                BLWP @NUMASG      * RETURN PARM2                                                  MOV  @SAVR11,R11                         RT                                       END
