Lord of the Rings extended version- im about halfway through Fellowship. don't feel like the extra scenes add a whole lot. Felt it just kind of slowed the pacing down. still plan to watch the entirety of it but on future viewings it'll be the theatrical versions for me

Dreamt I wrote an epic conversion of "The Oregon Trail", with graphics done using multiple DLIs to reload color registers, manual per-line color-clock management, to get 16 colors per line in ANTIC Mode 4.  Multiple custom characters sets, also DLI-switched.  Looked amazing.  And then got distracted and only wrote the game portion as far as "Press [START] to die of dysentery".

It's like Xbox achievements or PS awards. Yeah maybe they don't mean anything (except briefly back in the day when you could actually win physical goods for them) but when you hear them "pop" it's just kinda satisfying.

    • Allan - would you be willing to rescan a couple APX manual pages as 600dpi grayscale instead of bitmaps (assuming you have the originals).  Looking for:   Bootleg (V3) [APX_20218]_Page_10 Gridiron Glory (V3) [APX_20188]_Page_10 Moon Marauder (V3) [APX_20226]_Page_08 Eastern Front 1941 (V4) [APX_20050]_Page_13 (the map) Frogmaster (V2) [APX_20131]_Page_03 Frogmaster (V2) [APX_20131]_Page_04 Melt-Down (V2) [APX_20178]_Page_05?  (map page- it's between 4 and 5 in the current pdf) Snark Hunt (V2) [APX_20154]_Page_07 (the map) Tact Trek (V2) [APX_20031]_Page_16? (Enterprise picture)   All of them should have pictures of some sort on them.   Kinda kicking around making an APX game manual book. Going off the list at AtariArchives, it looks like Kay classified 81 titles as "Entertainment", of which five are missing scans (bah!). Of the remaining 76 titles, after culling the review forms, warranty pages, blank pages, redundant front-cover pages and (unfortunately) the copyright pages, I've brought the page count down to a manageable 834 pages.  Using a coil binding and putting 2 pages sideways per 8 1/2" x 11" sheet, a standard color book looks to be about 420 pages which ballparks $38-$40.  I could do a full size version (original page size) in two $30 volumes of ~420 pages each, but I'm not sure what the audience for these is- it's niche at best.  Just kicking around the idea.  I've made a couple templates and done some quick resizing. Not sure how serious I'm going to get with it, but I've already spent a stupid amount of time making some fonts for some reason a few months back.  I started with the existing Atari 825 printer fonts and increased the individual ink dot size on them character by character to make them look like they actually appear when printed, not as the original dot matrix sent to the printer.  Wayyy too many pages to retype, though- unless somebody already has?  Existing bitmap scans don't OCR for crap     ___APX-V2-flat.tif ___APX-V3-flat.tif AtariAPX-Fonts.zip
    • Hello and welcome!   I've never been a shmup guy (well, unless Galaga counts...). Sometimes one will lure me in with its nice graphics & music, but then kicks my ass and I quickly become impatient. So the idea of one with a gentler difficulty sounds appealing.   All those floating pink bullets remind me how a friend would call them "salt water taffy" in Sunset Riders.
    • FYI - It ignores odd numbers for the MHZ value, so if you specified 255 then it was actually running at 250.   On my NTSC TI I can specify 9 NOPs and 252MHz and pass all tests, but one of my PAL machine needed 258MHz for that to be stable.   Oh, and I don't think the Pico likes 274 & 278 - that's what my notes say, the I/O lines stop functioning for some reason - so the next build I release will ignore those two values.  Maybe I should be using the lowest working even number when something unsupported is specified, I might make that change too, instead of defaulting to 250.   I'm glad it's working for you.
    • Do you still think a basic stereo POKEY can fit in a 10M02?
    • The 3rd Nevada stage is indeed Area 51, I learned today. I finished it and save at beginning of London.      Area 51 (Nevada) had some obscure areas, for me. The thing about this levels plot that I don't understand, Lara launches a huge missile in order to make progress. Erm ... what did she blow up?  Also, I thought I'd battle an alien but that never happened.  Lara did slaughter the government's  MP soldiers however.  I know it's just a fantasy game but at this point isn't Lara kind of an evil terrorist?    Well, on to London.
    • Yes, that sounds helpful during debugging the Atari side of things. BTW WozMon Z80 actually is a thing. I googled it and found: http://www.welzel-online.ch/downloads.html . Source is included. Looks easy enough to replace the single board computer I/O with BIOS calls and include it in your BIOS. Then, triggering an IRQ could jump to there.   Yes, it's the original DRI 8080 SYSGEN.ASM source code from '79. It has nothing to do with Atari. I just also named it ATSYSGEN because that is what it replaces after my modifications for your Atari ED format (3 tracks bootblock, 26 sectors per track).
