I'm pretty good with BASIC. But you know who really kicks butt with BASIC? Friggin' Jeff Denials from the Daniel web site. He could make a VIC-20 game in BASIC that wasn't a stiff, ugly, flickery mess.

if I don't like the results of a popularity contest, clearly the contest was rigged because there's no way I can lose. Just like my foray into running for prom king back in 1976 (even though I graduated in 1957). It's simply impossible that Joey could have won and not me, therefore the only solution is to ransack the vote counting office. only I can win!!

    • I haven't seen those options. I usually click on each option to weigh the cost to ship time, so there is an 8-12 day option but its only a few bucks cheaper. ordering 20 pcb's instead of 5 brings the cost per pcb down way more...   I'm really surprised there isn't any more interest...
    • TURGEN 9.2.21 is out. The biggest news is the initial support for TSFX made of items of the Standard plugin.   Good news You can now create TSFX from project items of the Standard plugin Since recording standard tape records can take considerable time, instead of staring at a blank screen, you will see "RECORIDNG..." on screen during the process. Not Everything Is Perfect, though The transfer speed always defaults to 600 bd. Advice on how to go around this is welcome. The IRG durations can be slightly off (but not by much). Other News The LBE binary loader is now compatible with AltirraOS. No more invalid command errors.   What the ... is TSFX? Tape self-extractors allow you to record files on tapes, when the only tape recorder you have on hand is the data recorder. The Tape self-extractors are binary load files that work as follows: Load the self-extractor from a universal cartridge, disk drive, or disk drive replacement device Connect a data recorder to your Atari computer Insert a blank tape in the data recorder, press PLAY+RECORD. Press START to record the program held within the self-extractor on tape. Wait until the recording is complete
    • A lot of the early 3D stuff has aged badly, that's why I don't mind them only putting a little on there, hopefully just good stuff. If they go into newer 3D well what's the point? I will play my Xbox or PS5. They need to stick to popular or rare early games.   Do you collect the carts or just buy the ones you like the look of? Yeah the Giga carts are for larger capacity, so it does give a nod to more recent games, it could be the begining of the end.   The early Tomb Raider games used digital controls anyway so they should be fine on the current controller. I don't want analogue and I don't want more power, I want retro. Lets see if they know their market, they try to push too advanced and their USP is gone and they die. Surely they aren't so stupid...
    • And I am using this quite frequently. Over the years my ignore list has grown quite long. Though most ignored people have long left AtariAge alone. Ignoring certain people really helps to concentrate on what is relevant. The only problem is, that their input still appears when they are quoted.   IMO this thread revolves over the same topic way too long already. Especially because the discussion will not change anything.

    • That's because Windows servers suck, the only merits that Windows has is a large homebrew community and specialty tools for hardware programming that are often far too complicated for regular users under Linux, or they simply don't exist.  Albert has a few device programmers that do not work without Windows, he just runs Windows on a Mac to use them.  Similarly, I have several hardware programmers that the companies just don't write software for other platforms for, even though they cost about 10 times what a little pissant dual MCU 2600+ board costs.
    • Concerning the capabilities of ChatGPT 3.5, I recently asked it to solve the equation "(-3)^a = 3" for a. I found this challenge on a Youtube thumbnail and tried it for myself before watching the video. (For those who wonder: This can only be solved in the field C of complex numbers. a=1 is wrong since -3^1 = -3, and a=-1 is wrong either, since -3^(-1) = 1/-3 = -1/3.)   It took me roughly 15 minutes; my math diploma is already 30 years old.   Actually, ChatGPT solved it correctly in a few seconds. In hindsight, I should have given it other numbers (like -5 instead of -3); I suspect that it learned it from that Youtube video or a transcript of it. Interestingly, one of my colleagues tried a similar prompt and got nonsense back.
    • Sorry, @CPUWIZ, quality was way too high from the get-go.  Maybe an inferior build quality would need replacing, but all of mine are still minty fresh.
