    • OLD CS1

The short story: Paramount releases "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" on DVD.  It was apparently mastered by a summer intern using off-the-shelf software, resulting in progressive scans of interlaced sources, not de-interlaced and shit quality.  Two of the discs in the set are unreadable so I resort to alternate methods of acquisition.  I find someone has run the DS9 set through an AI up-scaler to produce a 720p collection in fantastic quality!

Really, Paramount?  Would that have been so difficult for you to do and sell to us at the MSRP of $69.99?
      1. SpiceWare

You might want to pick up the original DVD sets of the individual seasons instead of the crappy complete series.  Doing that solved the ripping problems for me, plus the file size for each episode is 2x larger than from the complete series.  More info here:

How would you classify this game?

      My thoughts:

      1. x=usr(1536)

In some ways, it's reminiscent of the arcade game Hunchback.  Not totally the same, but there are similarities.

Now that I think of it, I can't recall a version of Hunchback making it to the 2600, though just about every other platform from the time seemed to get one.  Hmm.
      2. Intellivision Master

There is a homebrew called Hunchy 2 for the 2600.  Also, there is a 2600 multi-cart with mini games on it.  One of the games is Hunchy. Both the homebrew and the multi-cart are in the AA store.
      3. Living Room Arcade

        Hunchy in the 2005 Mini-Game Multi-Cart

        @batari released the ROM here.
Hunchy is a 2k ROM that punches above it's weight IMO.  Good game!  There is also a hacked version here.

    • Back to topic:  I like it but I wait to buy it with new firmware. I do not have the nerves to update that thing on my own.
    • Also If one wants a ColecoVision Super Action Controller hook up, consider edladdin.com. He builds joysticks and PCBs for Coleco and 7800.   According to his PCB, you can hook up individual joysticks and grounds to each button, and the circuit board deals with 2 different grounds correctly.  Joystick and Index button (left on standard CV) are on ground A.  Middle (right on standard CV)  Ring, Pinky buttons, and keypad buttons are on ground B.   Also it has a different list of games that don't work vs the Official Coleco list.  It seems like certain games, having a lack of a spinner helps, and in others a lack of a spinner hurts.   Games like QBert's Qubes, it will work on Edladdin Super CV, but not a real Super Action Controller.  It's like the presence of a roller/ spinner distracts it on a real CVSAC.   I guess the solution is plugging in a Super Action Controller with a roller on one end of a Y Cable  for the games that mess up without a roller.
    • I was only about 10 years old when the crash happened. To me I just saw cheap games until about 1984-85 and I realized there was nothing new.   I personally didn't see a lot of overlap between Computers and Game consoles before the crash. Most kids I knew at the time didn't even get a computer until around 1984 if they got one at all. And it wasn't nearly the number of consoles vs computers. I knew maybe 10 kids that had a consoles before the crash (mostly Atari 2600 and a couple O2's). Out of those kids only about three ended up getting a home computer of some kind. My house ended up with a PCjr. (which was never used for gaming, it was for my dad to work on stuff at home. which btw, never really worked out), one kid's house got an Atari 800XL and I knew one other kid that got a C64. Those two kids did switch to gaming on computer.   At the time it was still a big jump to go from console to Computer money wise. Most consoles sold for $199.00 or lower around 1982/83 time frame (which is when I remember most kids getting a game console. We got our O2 in '79). Computers were $399.00 and up at the time. That's a big price jump and the average family wasn't going to just plop the money out for a computer just for gaming. I'm sorry but (at the time) Computers just were not as ubiquitous as game consoles.   Heck From what I've read PC's never got better than 30% penetration into the home before smartphone became a thing (2008 to 2009). I personally didn't have a PC (outside of the PCjr) at my home until 1998 when I bought one for myself (finally out of college and had the money to buy one).
    • Little more: 1st level 1st man: 2980 Score: 21270
    • And then there's this. This is... something. My biggest question, though: what's with the snarling doberman in the upper left hand corner? Is this supposed to make the game feel more dangerous? Is the dog an in-game character? I don't know!
    • I just got multiple song support to work with my game. Currently two long songs (1:30 each) plus the Furnace Tracker driver takes $BAD bytes. And on my ROM I still have $1F57 bytes free. This means enough space for multiple controllers support and more tunes for the background if I get inspiration.   This is kind of cool as you can compose all your title screen, levels, credits as one tune in Furnace Tracker and call the music when you need it.
    • If one wanted to build an ambidextrous pad/stick for Intellivision, RetroGameBoyz's Intellidapter would be a good starting point.   5 pins affect the direction only, pins 1-4 and 9.   3 pins affect the button layout only, 6-8   Pins  1-4 and 6-8 all affect the keypad.   Therefore the proper strategy is to use the keypad as the hub, and add on a joystick and buttons.   Think Nintendo Switch, but the main purpose of removing portions is modularity for easy configuration.   I would buy a RetroGameBoyz adapter except for one flaw: a lack of 3 independent buttons.   Currently it uses a "Master System Hack" of L+R= T.   Their true Joystick uses 3 independent buttons.   I would buy their $120 adapter if I can use my 3.5mm TRS based Fight Stick with it.   Any fight stick that starts out  uncoded and has direct inputs can work with this.   I think this might be a good compromise.  I THINK, (I'll test it once I get equipment from my joystick builder Stan Escolano) that my designed SMS to 6x TRS 3.5 mm cable does work, because the Sega Master System itself uses an "electronically uncoded" signal.  (Simple presence of signal is actuation, simple absence is lack of actuation.). This cable can act as a bridge to the already existing SMS adapter.     As for the third button, I would suggest a switch to switch between combination mode and independent mode.  Combination mode is where L+R=T and independent mode takes it's third button from a 3.5mm TRS cable so a single button can be hooked up to act as an  independent third button   Also a "BYOC" (bring your own controller) version which just has the circuitry to deal with INTV 4 way and 8 way correctly and deal with the 3 buttons correctly.  You provide a real "back in the day INTV Keypad" (if one mixes FB equipment and BITD equipment, one's self is responsible for getting it working.  Thankfully 8 Bit Widgets has a half a solution, and the other half are DB9 gender benders)  a DB9 Y cable  and the keypad is handled right.    Also I thought of a way you can add keypad buttons as a joystick button on my 3.5 mm TRS Stick: just change the push buttons to a 3.5mm TRS connectors.
