Foxsolo2000
There is an old saying of what goes around, comes around and in doing a good deed somehting good should come back to you. Its a nice theory, one that I hold to and believe me I have seen its effects on those who have jipped me
Pipster
I can't see how you'll benefit in the long run, he's going to check all his Atari games on ebay now and bamg goes your cheap 5s or 6s.

I agree. now every price he wants will be top dollar ebay prices. you could of offered a fair price of say 20.00 that way he makes money and you get a deal

Pipster
Not exactly a fair price but seeing as everybody moans about having to buy on ebay any idea where you can get cheaper rarer games if you're going to tell the seller he's not charging enough? zach1845
as far as the owner he would of been happy I know most swap shops around me are happy to get 2.00 for an atari cart because they just sit there. quote name='Pipster' date='Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:27 PM' post='1412591'] Not exactly a fair price but seeing as everybody moans about having to buy on ebay any idea where you can get cheaper rarer games if you're going to tell the seller he's not charging enough? +Random Terrain
Now that even people out in the middle of nowhere have an internet connection, if you run a store and haven't bothered to look up how much games are on your own when it's as easy as typing a few words and clicking a mouse a couple of times, you don't deserve big bucks for rare games. Educating store owners who are out of the loop won't help you in the long run since greed will probably kick in and they'll want to charge you $50 for Pac-Man. Or they'll want to hold onto every Atari 2600 cartridge that comes in and wait 20 years to sell them, similar to nagn2, in case the games will be worth even more in the future. Unless the store is having money troubles, I think it's best to keep them in the dark for as long as possible. If the guy eventually turns on a computer and bothers to look and see that he sold you a rare game for $5, he might be pissed off, but as someone else said, what makes him so special that he should get the big money? What about the original owner of the game? Why not track him down and tell him to sell it on eBay?
Grundy
Sorry....I'm a VERY karmic person, and I believe that deeds done, good AND bad, come back around, but.... Theres no way in HELL that I would have told him...nope! Sorry, but thats not called "fleecing", thats called finding a good DEAL. What do you think the seller paid for it? A dime? A dollar? I would have grabbed it up and plunked down my .50 or whatever...you bet! Sorry, but that whole "Indiana Jones mentality" of "It BELONGS in a MUSEUM" is HOGwash... Why? So that it can sit behind plexiglass and be ogled by school kids and tour groups? SAME thing in this case... My friend is a big metal detector enthusiast. Recently he found a small cache of Civil War goodies...rifles, knives, jewelery, etc. He made the terrible ERROR of blabbing about his find, and the "Historical Society" stepped in and claimed that due to the "Historical Signifigance" of said items, that they were to be "claimed by the state/county" . Sorry, but thats just plain bullshit...no other way to say it. Sorry, but when i found my XONOX double enders years back, and when I these days find harder to find NES games at yard sales, I dont walk up to the seller(s) and say "Oh..hey..this game here, Dragon Warrior III...you have it marked $1...its worth $30..let me give you $30" No WAY! The name of the game is "hunt 'n score" It's nice that you did the "right thing" and all, you are a better man than I...Cause I'd be at home playin WaterWorld. -Joe
the 5th ghost
TSK TSK TSK... The Atari gods smiled on you, and you spat in their face. Zwackery
you could of offered a fair price of say 20.00 :rolling: It only went for the opening bid of $49.99. (Shipping was cheap at $2.99, although do you think that means a bubble envelope?) (Minus the Insertion Fee = $1.20 + Gallery Plus = $0.75 + Final Value Fee = $2.12, plus another $1.83 if using PayPal standard rate) Hopefully slosu didn't tell the seller it was worth megabucks, but slosu was doing what he felt was right. Even in today's market $35 or $40 would be more of a fair price. $20 is still too darn low for this game. Now perhaps in a few years $20 will be a fair price. But today it is still around $40. By the way whoever got that Waterworld for $49.99 got a heck of a deal.

slosu
This is NOT a job, I already have a good paying job. This is something I'm doing in MY OWN time when I want. The owner has another business that keeps him busy which is why he has piles of games just collecting dust. That is where I come in. These games will be put into circulation again when I go through them. Of course I do get the pick of the litter! Since this is NOT a job the owner said he has no problem giving me games for LITTLE or NO cost for helping him out. I know some of you think I should have snagged the Water World cart to begin with, maybe I would have had he been watching me go through these boxes. But he left ALL ALONE with total trust with nobody around. I thought that was cool so I was just being cool back. Look where it got me, I will be filing holes in my collection for nothing and something I like doing. What goes around DOES come around! doctorclu
...and just uploading those pics from the ebay auctions before they disappear. There is nothing more annoying that looking at threads years later with links to ebay auctions long gone. Well, ultimately I have to say, if I don't care as much for the owner, I give them what they ask for. If I saw a Waterworld for $5, I'd buy it straight up. Business is happy on both side, we both walk away happy. He thinks he got $5 out of me for a old Atari game, and I walk away knowing that the current market (be it ever so built on faith by an Atari community and by those of a online market so volitile) value of the game is a LOT more than $5. Now... if I CARE about the owner, we do repeated business, ect, I let them know what I know. And I have done this on many occations. I picked up a book at a bookstore, Star Trek. On the cover was signatures from Shatner, Nemoy, and Kelley. Kelley (Dr. McCoy is now dead, so being quite valueable). So at any rate, the store owner was going to sell it to me for $2, I said "Well, to be fair...." and I pointed out of the signatures. He's researching it, probably will be more than I want to pay in the end, but I like the guy. And here's the bottom line, he gives me 15% off every time I buy comics, and great deals on other things. So we need to be good to each other right? Happy holidays all! (Ebay auctions listed in this thread ended at $52.58 and $49.99) Edited December 29, 2007 by doctorclu
Zwackery
Told you $49.99 was a heck of a deal. Looks like Waterworld averages between $60-$70 according to the list. Oh please. $50 for something that averages out at around $66 (for the last 12 auctions where only a loose cart was sold - meaning roughly 25% off the average) is hardly "a heck of a deal". The whole reason why I've been tracking these is to actually prove that you were wrong in your estimation about "a heck of a deal". WW for $5 - now that would be a deal. Rik
Congrats on the honesty.I used to be that honest, but sometimes one can be too honest for their own good, and just end up being shot in the foot, and YOU end up being taken advantage of.One has to be careful with this honesty stuff. There comes times in life when honesty is not always the best way!And im not referring to the waterworld cart situation in particular, just general life.
