Cousin Vinnie
I don't think there has ever been three 7800 homebrews released at the same time. Is there anyone else who is giddy? Cousin Vinnie

TrekMD
So am I. It's great to get new games for my 7800 and these are well made games. I also am glad to see a re-release of Beef Drop for the 7800!
Brian R.
Was it the encryption that had prevented new 7800 games from being released?

8th lutz
Was it the encryption that had prevented new 7800 games from being released? It was the case before the encryption found in late 2001. I highly doubt it was the reason after 2002 as a result. The first homebrew 7800 game released on cartridge happened in 2005. The game was called Combat 1990. There were attempts of doing games for the 7800 before 2005. They were never released on cartridge or completed. There were attempts on doing homebrew games like Space War as an example. It was the first attempt to do a homebrew 7800 game. The attempt happened in 2003 or 2004. It appeared to be a programming issue by the complaints I read in the past. Edited December 27, 2007 by 8th lutz
HammR25
And two of these 3 are "Hacks" although PMC is VERY good at "hacking" games.

carmel_andrews
Wasn't the 7800 encryption system hacked by someone at atarihq.com (John Hardie i was told) Edited December 27, 2007 by carmel_andrews

+Allan
anyone know if space duel features the one player controlling 2 ships tethered mode like the arcade? thats what I love about space duel. No it doesn't. It was the one feature PMP just couldn't get to work. Everything else is there though and it is a great game. Allan
mimo
And two of these 3 are "Hacks" although PMC is VERY good at "hacking" games. Thats true, but as we know Bobs hacks are so good, they are unrecognizable from the original games, I have played Asteroids Deluxe and Space Duel extensively on my CC2, and there seems to be very little of the original game left
atomickneedrop
I must admit...this feels mighty good.
shadow460
anyone know if space duel features the one player controlling 2 ships tethered mode like the arcade? thats what I love about space duel. Thank you! That's the game I played with the dual ships in Pizza Hut back in '85 or so. It has to have been Space Duel! Didn't it have the spark traveling along that tether so that when one ship exploded, the other went up, too? IIRC, it ran on a color vector monitor and you could see the damage each ship took when it was hit. It allowed up to three hits per ship. I played the Space Duel Bob has been working on with DevOS. It's pretty good. Someone mentioned Geometry Wars in the same sentence as Bob's Space Duel, but that's comparing apples to oranges. A browse through the HSC will reveal that I'm a big fan of the 7800 Asteroids as it is. I could do with any version of it, and I will probably be placing my own order next week with Christmas cash (I wanna run it by the wife first since it's gonna be over well over $30 or so). I agree with what was said of Bob's hacks earlier--he leaves very little of the original game. If one didn't know better, they'd think they were playing a totally different cart especially with Pac-Man Collection! I like that one, and I'm not really a big fan of Pac-Man as it is. Bruce Tomlin
Wasn't the 7800 encryption system hacked by someone at atarihq.com (John Hardie i was told) It was more like John finding the encryption document with a Pitfighter demo. Well, the main thing that was needed was the key itself. And that was in the encryptor binary. The encryptor was an Atari ST executable, and it was found on a hard drive that was rescued from an Atari dumpster, along with the Lynx and Jaguar encryptors. (A couple of years later, someone found a copy of the 7800 encryptor on another rescued hard drive.) For my own version, I disassembled the executable (much of it was in C, but the crypto routines were all in assembly), then made a direct translation of the resulting assembly language. Chris-in-NJ
I've ordered B*nq as I love Q*bert. The 5200 version is great, but the 7800 graphics look quite a bit better. I've got the Sony CD-ROM and it just ends after you finish screen four on level five! Didn't order Asteroids Deluxe or Space Duel as I've never been a fan of Asteroids. Cousin Vinnie
Why would we need Galaxian? How about a good version of Galaga or Galaga '90? I had a great dam idea for a hack that would almost be an original game. The game would be awesome. I wish I was good enough at code to program it.
