rxd
Does anyone know what games Misfit Mame supports and where to get the roms? I've only recently heard of this emulator and would like to give it a shot....
Bakasama
I remember that version of MAME plays craploads of Pac-Man graphics hacks. I think it plays decypted C versions of many Neo Geo game. It's pretty much any playable game that won't you find on MAME. The ROMs seem to be a lot harder to find than the regular MAME ROMs. You could try a newsgroup. Shannon
Sad to say your best chance is to ask in a newsgroup someone there is more likely to have a set laying around.

Also does anyone know of a good frontend program for misfitmame? Edited April 1, 2008 by rxd
Bakasama
Well, you could take some of those game name and/or zip file names and run those google search to find some games. You're more likely to game a complete collection from a newsgroup. Here's a collection of ROMs. It's mostly pac man hacks. iratanam
I've been searching the newsgroups as of late for Misfit roms also, the only ones I've seen there though are Donkey Kong Foundry, Donkey Kong(h) & Donkey Kong Jr(h). Havent seen any others in there. I believe those were in the Alt.binaries.(something I don't remember atm).arcade Edited April 2, 2008 by iratanam
Bakasama
hmm, I said to look at newsgroups because I thought one would have better chance of finding misfit ROMs but that starting to look like it's that's not so hot either. Ok, I can attach some of those ROMs, like the Tempest hacks. I just need to find out where I put them.

That would be great I'd love to see the rest of the DK hacks, and of course the Pac, MS. and Jr. hacks, the KOF hacks would be way to big, so would the Metal Slug Hacks. I have the Baby Pac-Man romset, but it's from like 1999 and Misfit won't pick it up even if I name it baby2 or baby3.zip so I dunno what its looking for on it. Bakasama
Sometimes the Neo Geo hacks are small enough for me to upload but a lot of are still too big to upload. Since I got alot hacks, I'll put these up by installments. This is the Tempest hacks. aliensv.zip ("Aliens" and "Aliens" alt, a supposed earlier version of Tempest) temped.zip (a demo hack of what "TempED" can do) tempestm.zip ("Tempest Mark's Hacks", the levels of different colors and shapes) temptwst.zip "Tempest Twisted" tmptwst2.zip "Tempest Twisty's Revenge" tmptwst3.zip "Tempest Psycho Twist" tmptwst4.zip "Tempest Twisted Maniac" vbrakout.zip "Vector Breakout" templm.zip "Tempest Level Man" (select any level and 255 lives) vortex.zip "Vortex" and "Vortex" alt If you got questions, just ask. I'll help as best I can. tempesthacks.zip
Bakasama
I got some good news, I've found a few pages with working links to the ROMs you're looking for. http://misfit.oldos.net/ - lots of hacked ROMs, I suggest you get as much as you can before it disappears. http://www.arcadecollecting.com/hacks.html - the homepages of Bagman Turbo hack, the Make Trax Turbo hack, and some others. Bakasama
I'm glad you liked them. As I recall Bob did a Ms. Pac-Man arcade hack that's a Plus version of Ms. Pac-Man. I think you could ask him for a ROM of that. I remember Misfit MAME has a version of Pong built into it but there's no ROMs for it. To play it, just make a folder called "pong" and put it in the ROMs folder. Pong should appear in the list. I'll tell you a little secret. Since most of the games that are playable on Misfit MAME are graphics hacks, you can play those hacked games on regular MAME. You just take ROMs in the zip that contain the graphics and replace them with the renamed hacked ROMs in the zip file. The hacks will run but the audit with give out CRC errors. Just remember to back the original zip files just in case you want to unhacked games. http://www.mameworld.net/samples/MisfitMAME%20Samples.htm This has sound samples for Misfit MAME. scotty
There is a torrent for the complete set floating around on the net. BTW, I am the one who made Pac-Man after Dark and NewPuc2 Scotty I love Pac-Man after dark!! Trying to get a friend of mine to burn the roms for me so I can replace the roms in my pac-man cabinet with the pac after dark roms Thank you. It is nice to hear someone is enjoying them. I made the very first version, (where it says Oh sh**!) when you get eaten. Somone else modified it, and added the original pac in where Pac-Man gets eaten. The story behind NewPuck2, I was at a Campground in Port Clinton, Ohio visiting my grandfather for a few days in the summer. The campground store had a pool table, air hockey and a few arcade games, one of them being a Pac-Man machine. The Pac-Man machine had been converted to NewPuck2. I was already familular with NewPuck - X (Deluxe) and Hangly-Man, but this was the first and only time I ever saw NewPuck2. I took a pencil and paper, and wrote everything down from the game, as I planned on writing a version for my Atari 800, as I LOVED this game!! Didnt get too far in the programming, but I kept the paper for many, many years and studied it. After a few years I ended up throwing it away. When Mame was releasedI waited, and waited and waited for the roms. I have been using Mame since before it was coined Mame, when it was called the Multi-Pac emulator. Then along came MisFit mame as people were making there own hacks. I of course decided to do NewPuck2! Finally the "real" version popped up in Mame a year or so later. Can a bootleg be called "real"? Bakasama
You made that hack? That is pretty cool hack. With all the Pac-man hacks out there, I'm kind of surprised that nobody really attempted to make a Crazy Otto graphics hack. Then again the only known screenshot of that game isn't that great. Bakasama
I'd love to get Crazy Otto roms for it have never been found, gotta be out there somewhere though. The only known copy of that ROM was used when GCC demoed the game in front of the Midway people. As to what happened to ROM atferwards, nobody knows. It could be lost forever or it could be sitting somewhere in GCC. THIS is the only screenshot of Crazy Otto. From what I understand it's from Time Magazine. If someone wanted to hack Ms. Pac-man into Crazy Otto, I believe this is doable. If one were to do this, they would have to use the earliest version of Ms. Pac-man and redraw the graphics to match those in that screenshot. Bakasama
Talking about all these ROMs inspired me to look into making a Mac version of MisfitMAME. The only problem I can see is that while simple hacked ROMs are easy to add into MacMAME, ROMs that require adding hardware into code are a real annoyance. Curt is in touch with several GCC people, maybe he can ask them? I asked the few GCC guys I knew but none of them were involved in the arcade end of things. It's very possible that CO still exists.
