Godzilla
Pretty cool. Wonder if you could hack a 9 pin plug onto there and have a pc/2600 all in one http://www.legacyengineer.com/store.html
Carpenter
Looks great, specially if you want to build an arcade and put a PC with mame inside! A good competitor to Stelladaptor.

klokwrkblu
Pretty cool. Wonder if you could hack a 9 pin plug onto there and have a pc/2600 all in one http://www.legacyengineer.com/store.html Yeah I think you can. The circuitry is really simple. I'm thinking all you need is to install a custom programed device driver, then its just a matter of simply plugging and ordinary unmodified Atari controller into the com port. It could work. Any one here know x86 assembly code or better still 8088 (for backwards compatibility)?

I may be wrong, but I think he was wondering if you could hack a 9 pin connector onto it and play it with a regular 2600. The answer is yes. (From Curt Vendel)The choice was made to do a "B" USB connector instead of hardwiring the USB cable in so that longer cables could be used (includes a 6' cord) and yes, if you wanted you could hardwire an Atari 9 pin cable into it if you wanted and make it a dual use joystick too. Noelio
I love it! I ordered 8! (2 MIGHT be christmas gifts though I doubt it hahaha) Though I haven't technically used it yet, the inner workings are the same as the flashback 2 controller, which were just fine in my book. The one thing I DIDN'T like about the FB2 sticks was the LOGO!!! So these sticks are actually more authentic to me. The prospect of hacking one or two of the controllers I get is very real. I build the odd arcade cabinet, juke systems and custom controls are easily laid out, but not cheaply interfaced. For $14.99 you get 10 to 15 buttons to mess with once you tap into the contact block built on board. I see much potential for custom interfaces using this simple, inexpensive circuit. Another point I like about it is that it uses a standard USB connector on the stick so neatly packing away, displaying is a very clean operation. These days I have a habit of leaving one USB cable hanging off the front of my desk for hooking up to various gizmos I have such as ION usb VCR, Edirol PCR M30 Synth, Roland GW7 Synth, USB dard drives etc etc etc. I can take the stick off my shelf, pop in the cable plug and enjoy some megamania goodness in a couple seconds. Yet another point I like is the fact that it's a standard HID device, so linux, mac, windows are ok with it which means interfacing with a PANDORA or WIZ should be no problem. Emulation heaven. Perfect timing too, as the economy goes tits up, the war machines ramp up and our psyche demands some fantastic escapist entertainment, the legacy sticks will be a rightly prescribed dose of novelty for our embattled minds. I'm happy that these devices are coming out, just as we were mourning the loss/hiatus of the flashback 3. littleman jack
This would/will be great to use with the Atari 88 Great Games CD on the PC, and with a bunch of arcade style games like Kobo Deluxe on my Linux Box. Thanks for the link!
Godzilla
very cool. I will definitely have to get one. I wonder if there would be a way to hack a female 9pin onto it as well, so u could plug in existing 2600 controllers and thus make them usb sticks that would uber rock... and then... (as I always ask...) could u use the sears video arcade II sticks (that rotate,) as both paddle and stick for games like ikari warriors, tron, front line, heavy barrel etc. (in emus etc.) ? Deteacher
I just ordered 2 (1 for me and one for my bro's birthday.) I'm still going to get at least one Stelladaptor. I'm excited to try the two of them out and weigh out the pros and cons. Without using either of them, this is what I've determined so far. 1. The USB controller is less expensive ($15 vs. $40 for the Stelladaptor) which is good news for those who have a tighter budget. 2. While more expensive, the Stelladaptor will allow you to use your OEM joysticks. IMO, that will give a more authentic feel to the gaming experience. It will be nice to use my trusty ol' "broken-in" CX-40 with Stella. 3. Another pro for the Stelladaptor is that you can use your paddles and driving controllers as well as the joysticks. No more needed to be said there!

missioncontrol
I had a chance to test one of these joystick's for a Retroblast review. I am pleased to say these sticks are supurb. Lord Helmet
I bought a couple of them. I already have a Stelladapter, so I will probably hack both of the usb sticks
oesii
I bought a couple of them. I already have a Stelladapter, so I will probably hack both of the usb sticks I have 2 stelladapters and some good usb joysticks but I still ordered one to try out. I was waiting to see it they felt good in my hands before ordering more to hack up. That retroblast review is a good sign that I'll order a couple more soon
nathanallan
I ordered two a while back, and probably will end up getting a few more for arcade applications. It's too great of a resource not to use them! The price is right and the practical application of them is extensive. I have a feeling that these will be a mainstay as far as producing them is concerned. Lots of demand and lots of supply, good for LegEng! Deteacher
I just saw on the site that construction isn't expected to start until the 20th, with delivery in mid-January. Bummer. I was hoping for an early Xmas present. Oh well, I've still got my trusty Stelladaptor.
HFK
From Curt himself: Hi, As you may know, I have been expecting delivery within the 1st week of December of the first batch of joysticks - approx. 5,000 of the 10,000 pcs orders. The current US arrival estimate has been December 6-9th. I have been in a bit of a battle with the factory in Shenzhen that I'm using. Normally I would use a factory with whom I have a very strong relationship, however they could not accept such a small order of 10,000 pcs. I know it sounds like a lot, but in manufacturing, where they do 100K-1Mill pc runs, my order is very low. As such, for the last week I've been having a delivery conflict with the factory. They keep re-prioritizing my order back and back and after the past week of trying to convince them to stay with the December schedule, this evening (Monday morning their time) I've been told that I will not have my orders built until December 18-19 to the 22-23 , which means they will not arrive until after the New Year, nearly a month behind schedule. This is puts you in a position where you wanted these joysticks for presents for the holidays and my timing was meant for just that which has now been thrown off completely. I am a very fair and honest person, and I will not expect anyone to have to wait any further for their orders, so if you do not wish to wait, I will fully honor and fully refund your order if you reply back with your order# and I will process your return. I can not guarantee that if you re-order later that I will have enough left to take an order from you later on, again, this is only a 10,000 piece run and as it stands I am at over 8,000 orders so there are not many left. I apologize for this inconvenience to you and everyone and I am trying to get in a DHL shipment of at least a few hundred for the very early orders that were taken in order to at least get a small batch out to very early buyers. Regards, Curt I am kind of disapointed but I will just wait. I guess too it depends on when you placed your order. Good luck with everything Curt! aftermac
I would be all over these controllers if 1) I didn't already have a Stelladaptor and 2) had a better job situation and disposable income. However, I will find a way to acquire one or more portable 2600's assuming they accept cartridges.

Interesting info there. Much appreciated! I'm sorry Curt's having a rough time with the factory. That really sucks. I hope nobody took my last post to be rude. If so, I do apologize. I did not mean to sound like I was giving Curt a hard time (or a bad rap.) I have absolutely no doubt that he'll come through for us all. Best wishes to Curt and keep up the great work! This knocked me out of my complacency and I just ordered 2. I had been putting it off. It accepted my order, so I hope I get them! Whenever they arrive is fine, I just don't want to miss out. keilbaca
Being they are built like the flashback 2 sticks, I might order 4 and stick my FB2 joysticks back into the box, then make all 4 work on the 2600. They would be great for when I eventually have my Atari party I have been wanting to throw for a long while.

You can use the Stelladaptor for paddles and driving controllers as well as the joystick. Also, the USB joystick's motherboard has places to connect extra fire buttons (up to 10) for multi-button games.
