nathanallan
It's neat, and it says ATARI on it. I can't find the thread where the person here made their own from an Altoids tin, but I did the same thing. I have also made a video (that camera is FUN) To whomever made that one and got me curious, thanks! iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin
Cool! With the Atari sign on it even nicer than the original model!
bah
Congratulations "Supermegaturboman" I liked the video. Glad to have inspired you. BAH
fiddlepaddle
I always hate to throw away those Altoids cans! Now, all you need is one with 5 more LEDs and another DB9, with a cartridge port, and VCS emulator inside, then add an old cell phone display, and voila: a portable Atari (that also tests joysticks). Heck, you might even have enough room left inside to store a couple mints...
nathanallan
That'd be great! A littel out of my league, though. The next one I make can have test LEDs for paddles and evfen vibration, though. That'll be pretty neat. And maybe an Altoids tin that is styled up like a 2600 with woodgrain and everything. I'd also like to figure out how to make a tester for Genesis controllers. Bah, I couldn't have done it without you Edited January 16, 2009 by nathanallan

To test paddles, I'd suggest wiring each pot input to its corresponding button input, and the measuring the resistance between "power" and "ground". Use a resistance-controlled oscillator and you can make a device which will use zero current when a button isn't pushed, and will also let you hear if there's any jitter in the paddles. video game addict
Were all your videos filmed in that old bluejean jacket? Keep making the videos, they're great!

nathanallan
I didn't realise the jacket would become what it has, but it is an icon, now! And yeah, they're all in the Jacket. Supercat, you and Bah are inspiring me. Working on the next design. Thanks!
Parrothead
I received my "custom" Chuckwagon joystick tester this week from nathanallan and am very pleased with it. Quite a cool piece of gadgetry. Can't wait to officially try it out at the swap meets this weekend. nathanallan
I have another one, if someone wants one. I am asking $15 plus shipping, and shipping on these things has come up to less than three bucks domestic, if anyone is interested. PM me here. If you TOLD me you wanted one and still don't have one, let me know, I am getting PM's from all over the place so it may have confused me a little. Could you show me the inside, so I might just make one? ok its actually easy to make a 5200 controller if you use the right components you can tell it was my first attempt cause i ran the drill down and now there are dimples from the impact on the bottom they annoy me and are an eternal remider of my stupidity i have a little rectangle of clear plastic on the bottom to prevent shorts basically i made it with 6 resistors but you can get away with 4 you need 2 nc push buttons(for down and right) and 5 regular no push buttons 2 for left and right 2 for the 2 fire buttons and one for start (i generally play all games at default settings so dont need the keypad and never use pause ,dont need a reset cuase i can just turn off the system a length of 8 conductor wire(i used some network wire) a 15 pin d female plug with the shielding cut off and the pieces (front back)sealed together i'm gonna go draw up a good diagram Edited February 7, 2009 by bohoki
nathanallan
I may make one of these. Thanks for the diagram, I can figure it out from there.
