Unique 2600 PAL Games?

Tempest

Recommended Posts

I have a working list of titles that is probably about 75-80% accurate that I'll post for you when I get home later today. There was also a thread here that I started to try to put together a comprehensive list, but I couldn't find it when trying to search.

The main problem with the list is that there are many Homevision games that are original and are extremely hard to track down.

I'd say that of all the original PAL titles known to exist, a good 4/5s of them also exist in some form as a PAL-M title whether it be in cart format or as part of a built-in clone system.

Are you planning a new section on your website?

This one is missing on the list:

Brick Kick / Peter Penguin (ITT) / Jagd auf Diamanten-Frisco (Quelle) / HomeVision 4 (maybe real name somethink with Frisco)

and I think Panda Chase is the same as Der hungrige Panda (Zoo Fun). Zoo Fun is a hack I think, because you play no Panda, you play a boy. And its a bit different I think.

This is my working list of PAL/PAL-M originals.

I'm not sure I follow you, PAL is totally different to PAL-M. PAL-M carts are really just NTSC carts. Do you mean non-North American releases?

Mitch

Most of the games on that list are PAL releases, but there are a couple of CCE exclusives (Immies and Aggies, Pizza Chef) listed that are not PAL but South American PAL-M (NTSC).

The NTSC version is a Proto by Atari, Polyvox released this game in South America. There may be another non US game called Donald Duck as well that's different.

I am aware of that but I believe many, if not all, Polyvox releases were NTSC.

This list... are you looking for PAL only games or just games not available inside the US?

Some of these have NTSC protos, alot of them were converted and released by Brazilian companies, and more of them were converted TJ. PAL-M works fine on a NTSC TV. The colors might be different but the screen won't roll. For the sake of arguement we'll just say PAL-M games are NTSC even though it might not be technically correct. I will leave pointers here to the harder to find roms.

Conversions

Acid Drop (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Alien’s Return (NTSC pirate rom exists) its called Col 'N' on Atariage. Trust me it's a NTSC rom download it and count the scanlines (269)

Challenge (released in NTSC by Zellers)

Donald Duck’s Speedboat (NTSC prototype, also released by various other Brazilian pirate companies)

Dragon Defender (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Fatal Run (NTSC prototype)

Fire Spinner (ZiMAG /Emag / Vidco)

Forest Sancho (never converted)

Ghostbusters II (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Hell Driver (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Immies & Aggies (ZiMAG /Emag / Vidco)

I.Q. 180 (another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here.)

Klax (NTSC prototype)

Laser Base (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

MegaBoy (already PAL-M, so NTSC basically)

Meteor Defense (aka Astro War, another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here.)

Missile Control (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Mission 3000 (released by various other Brazilian pirate companies. Get a copy here.)

Mission Survive (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Mole Hunter (aka Hole Hunter)

Mountain Man (aka Ski Hunt, converted by R.Cade)

My Golf (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Mysterious Thief, A (ZiMAG /Emag / Vidco)

Nuts (another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here.)

Open Sesame (A few different NTSC versions of this ie I Want My Mommy - ZiMAG, Apples and Dolls - CCE, etc...)

Panda Chase (never converted AFAIK, was hacked into Zoo Fun, which might have been converted on the 2600 Screen Search Console)

Peter Penguin (aka Brick Kick, another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here.)

Pharaoh’s Curse (another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here. Also better converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Pick’n Pile (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Pizza Chef (ZiMAG /Emag / Vidco)

Pumuckl I/Zoo Fun (see comments on Panda Chase)

Robot Fight (this really is just a PAL hack of Missile Command)

Save Our Ship (another Brazilian conversion, but I don't know who. Get it here.)

Skydiver (aka Parachute, converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Snail Against Squirrel (Here is a version by CCE)

Steeple Chase (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Surfer’s Paradise: But Danger Below (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Time Warp (released in NTSC by Zellers)

Treasure Below (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

UFO Patrol (aka X'Mission, never converted)

Wilma Wanderer (this game has been hacked many times including Bobby is Going Home. Get a CCE version here.)

Wing War (converted by Thomas Jentzsch)

Words-Attack (never converted)

I don't know how many mistakes I made in the above list, but it should be noted that where there is one Brazilian pirate rom there is ususally several more with minimal changes (like only the company logo being different). I don't know if Thomas converted all the Technovision games but I seem to remember something about that. Very few games have never been converted now. I think Ski Run is not on your list, but it was converted at least on the 2600 screen search console. Don't confuse that game with Ski Hunt like I always do.

Roms' rom collection will have alot of roms from these pirate companies including the Ski Run I just mentioned.

AFAIK The Polyvox version of this was never proven to exist. It's just a rumor, even though the DP guide has it in there but Who do you guys know that owns one? I would love to see it if there is a pic floating around.

Also I am pretty sure if the Polyvox version was released in South America it would be NTSC since all the other Polyvox South America releases were ;)

I don't know if the Polyvox exists, but other Brazilian pirates do:

Imagic International Games

The Brazilians definitely had the rom so it stands to reason Polyvox could too.

Just to clarify, though - the original posts credited many of the PAL exclusives to Home Vision which isn't true, I'm pretty certain. Home Vision may have been one of the first outlets for the games in question though (that I believe were programmed in the East, probably Taiwan).

All Polivox games are pure NTSC.

Pal-M had NTSC resolution and speed (60 fps) but in PAL colors.

But, the colors are changed inside of Atari (color cristal? Tia?) not in rom, so undoubtly, Pal-M games are NTSC and run fine in NTSC Atari 2600, but Pal-M Atari2600 not work in NTSC TV (wrong color information).

Polivox was authorized by Atari to produce their carts, so Polivox not produced pirates games. You can find Activision, Imagic and Parker Brothers games, authorized, in official Atari silver label carts :)

I realy like Polivox carts, and worth for collection.
