Curt Vendel
Yes... In fact I tracked down a aluminum company that makes the exact same corner pieces as the 5200 cabinet.... However if we were to do a new cabinet a couple of things - It would be done in 3/4" MDF instead of the 1" used on the 5200 kiosk as that would reduce about 50-60lbs. I would recommend installed a 25-27" TV instead of the 19" which I personally always felt was too small. The front access panel should be replaced with swing out doors and have storage shelves for games, accessories, etc and make that area useable for storage, so while it could be EXACTLY reproduced, I would recommend some improvements to make it more gameroom useable for owners. Curt Remember the Colecovision, Odyssey2 and Astrocade kiosks built for Phillyclassic 2? Ever seen those kiosks that Atariage uses at shows? The huge Exhibitor wall that the Atarimuseum uses as shows? Well those are all older, very early custom productions that were done originally by me as an individual, but now have far more professional displays made custom just for you... Curt Can you build a replica of the 5200 kiosks? Allan
Shannon
Well my wife has been battling for use of my gameroom, which has become more of a storage room than something I use. Maybe I can make a trade with her. I assume if I wanna add a spinner, you guys provide the parts and easy to install instructions right? Curt Vendel
Shannon, If you'd like a spinner added in-shop, we can add one in for $40 additional, there is usually a 2 day delay as we have to get them shipped in from the supplier as we don't keep them in stock all of the time. Dreamwriter
Wow, I've been following the Atari Flashback stuff, and I think this is a great followup move for you Curt, congratulations! Sounds like you've got a great product there, time to start saving my money / robbing banks One question, your website mentions the game packs Midway Arcade Treasures, are those the same as the ones they sell in stores? I ask because I bought one, and it requires the CD - it sucks swapping out CD's based on what games you want to play.
Curt Vendel
No CD swaps necessary, everything is integrated into the system, just select a game, press the player 1 red fire button and the system begins setting up the game onto the screen and controls for gameplay. In fact there is no CD-ROM in the system, expansion paks will come on Thumbdrives that you plug into the system board through the back access panel and select Upgrade Pak from the Main Menu and it will install the additional games, serialize the thumbdrive to your unit and then power down the system. You unplug the thumbdrive from the unit and power it up and you additional games are adding into the menu ready to play. Curt Yes!! I talked my wife into it. Once she finds the credit card she wants to use I'll be placing an order. As for the spinner that is no problem I was gonna request a delayed shipping anyways cause I'm going out of town next week.
Shannon
Just finished talking to Curt today got one ordered with a spinner attached to it. So I should be seeing it in a week or two. Ran into a little problem with the credit card company. Turns out they called while I was talking to Curt so we were able to get it approved. They were just blocking it cause of the amount. Anyways we just talked abit about the design of the machine, etc. Curt sure has alot to say about this thing. Lots 'o passion is good. Probably makes the first time I've actually talked to an A'Ager for real. Sounds like they got some good future plans for this thing. Kinda nice to be able have licensed roms for a system. If it comes when I think I should have about 4 days to do some serious playing around with it. Maybe I'll even be nice and post some pics or vid capture it in action. I also wanna get a few pics of my game room that I had to give up. No biggy cause eventually all that will end up in the basement. But until then the stuff will be boxed. AussieAtari
Curt, I don't suppose you have had any of the Oz Arcade Game distributors interested in selling the unit in the Great Southern Land?
rxd
No Namco or Capcom games?
Shannon
I noticed the same thing, but I think it has more to do with the way the unit is set-up. They just don't slap mame and a bunch of ROMS on there and call it a day. They actually had teams like digital eclipse who made the midway arcade treasure packs modify their emulations to work in the environment they createde (awecade os). Even to the point of specifically loading code into cache, etc. Anyways stuff like that takes time. Last I heard a taito pack was in the works. rxd
Does anyone have an idea of the timeframe I'd be looking at to get Namco, Capcom and the Taito game packs and the cost? I'm looking to place an order for a Cabinet in the next day or two and it's come down to the Awecade and the Excalibur. I'm sure the quality of the Awecade is top notch and I think the price is great, but I think there's some real holes in the games lineup. privateers69
I think those other game packs are licensed to awecades. So it might be awhile or never before Namco and other game packs become available..
Shannon
Bottom line is it's all about licensing and set-up. The other site "Excalibur" seems to license their stuff but they are a little unclear on how that is done. Best I can tell they license the ROMS and slap MAME on the machine with ROMS for the packs they list. With my awecade unit came the original disks for the software I purchased (Midway Arcade Treasures 1,2. Atari Anthology). That being said, though. The awecade unit hard drive is locked down and unmodifiable. They do give the tools you need to modify the control panel for your own personal set-up if you so wish to go that route. Which basically requires setting up your own hard drive unit with your own stuff. Which would exclude any of the awecade OS stuff, since the drive is locked down. The "Excalibur" unit seems to be more flexible in that they have it set-up in a manner you can add your own stuff a little more easily. Since I've installed windows and built PC's myself the awecades unit is ideal for me. But might be a little more trouble than the average person is willing to go thru. I'm a configuration monkey myself. Always tweaking around and configuring things. I take it you have something in mind for around Christmas time? rxd
Yea, I'd like to get a system ASAP that I don't have to worry about whether I'm going to end up with the games I want. I'm more than willing to spend some time doing config stuff on a machine, but I don't want to be unhappy in the future because some games I want aren't available. The awecade seems to be a great system at a great price, but no Namco games? No Capcom games? No Taito games? Seems to me that theres alot of big name games that are missing from this system. Now if the system isn't locked down and I can get Mame on there somehow in a kind of dual boot senario I'd order it first thing in the morning. I just don't want to drop $2,000 on a system that's missing alot of games that are must haves in my mind.

It is locked down so that Namco and others can't sue Awecades for allowing such pirated roms on the system OS. The fact that they allow you to add your own MAME + ROMs on a different HD should be a plus. (as Shannon stated above your post) But really from what I've seen, your $2,000 is being spent on a nice cab w/ the computer system, monitor, light gun and a decent control panel. An extra $100 - $200 for a second HD + Time to DL the roms (or order the DVDs from a group) really is not all that bad.

(please re-read this thread for better context) Sure, that is definitely something you could do... right now I have some new MonStore solid state HD's coming in to examine, these are USB based, so that could free up HD0 on the primary and then you could setup the bios not to boot from the USB port instead, there are a lot of options... Curt Sounds like you can even talk to the man yourself over the phone for a clearer picture of whats involved. (Easy / Hard)? Just finished talking to Curt today got one ordered with a spinner attached to it. Curt Vendel
RXD - If time is the factor for you, you should pick up an Excalibur - we are booked beyond capacity right now through the New Year with dealer orders and direct sales and if you wanted an Awecade you'd have to wait until after Jan 2nd for us to fill an order for you. Curt Yea, I'd like to get a system ASAP that I don't have to worry about whether I'm going to end up with the games I want. madhatter667
Awesome Arcades.. .same company that has the smaller cabinet for around $1200? I had looked this stuff up online...and well... I wants it! Just have to save for a while to be able to throw down for such a splurge. After reading some of the other bits of information about Curt, I am really not surprised if this is indeed the same company. You seem to be doing something right! Atari_Bill
I was thnking the same thing. Mr. Vendel's Awecades website was still up last month when I went there. It looks like a neat machine. P.A.M. just like 5200. His product is very nice. I bought the full size machine a few years ago. I had some problems with the delivery company cracking the cabinet on it and he never batted an eye in getting it returned and replaced. He worked with me from the beginning to get a few special customizations on the machine that weren't part of the standard package. Curt is a great guy and makes a fine product. Atari Joe
Yep that sounds like him. What is it like having a machine like that with so many games? Do you play a rotating variety or do you mainly stick to a dozen of your favorites, what gets played?
