8bitdomain
Here is an project I built as a RGB test monitor for arcade games but has been attached to a Jaguar for gameplay. It is based on a Sharp 5" LQ5A136 display. The monitor has the needed 15Khz Hsync and has built in backlighting. The controller board I built contains the backlight inverter, power supply which takes a 12vdc input and provides the +5, +8 & -5 for the LCD. Dip switches to select PAL or NTSC, InputA (DB9) or InputB (8pin header), Pos or Neg sync selection and an unusual horizontal flip or vertical flip mode. The LCD's alone are normally $300 but I was able to find about 10 surplus units for a reasonable price. See attached pictures for detail on the controller board and running Doom. If there is any interest I could build up a few, however the price would be a little steep, around $138 complete. Mike

Gorf
Now if you can fit that all in a small handheld.......
Atariman
And if you DO try to make a handheld version, make sure to add in the JaguarCD... you know... so that it won't be too easy... (j/k)
+LS650
Pardon my ignorance - but wouldn't it have been a lot easier to go buy one of those small LCD monitors that take an AV input? You know, like you see parents putting in the mini-van for the kids to watch DVDs on?

You know, like you see parents putting in the mini-van for the kids to watch DVDs on? Yes it would, but the origional goal was to be able to test arcade boards (Williams, Midway, etc.) So having RGB inputs was a must. Having it work for the Jag too is just icing on the cake. ManShowBoy
Would be cool to turn that into a flip-top screen and have it close where the jag cd connects when not in use.

(j/k) Nowadays I bet you can find a nice compact CD drive that could work.

And Jag can do RGB from the SV port which blows all others away in quality as that is the abolute direct signal most display devices break down to anyway. R,G,B, Hsync, Vsync. This is the REAL deal. +remowilliams
This is the REAL deal. Got that right, this is really cool. RGB FTW! This would be a great hobby/testing display unit.

ovalbugmann
Nice work! a RGB connection for the Jaguar is very nice. Do you know of any devices that can make my computer monitor use the needed 15Khz Hsync so I can use the RGB output on my ICD catbox?
