19Echo
Quick question. Which modems are good to use with an 800XL and an 850 interface? Having problems with my current modem and i have yet to get a dial tone out of it. Is there a website dedicated to a list of good modems to use? Or anyone just have a cheap one they want to sell if i cant find one? thanks guys Gary
Gunstar
The 850 interface is specifically made to use standard equipment, at least in it's day. What type of modem are you using? I can only assume you have the proper type of cable between the 850 and your modem and that you are using the correct RS232 ports on the 850. A bit more info on what your are using and how might be useful before deciding that your modem is not compatible. Since the 850 was designed for industry standards, there's really no "list" made up of compatible modems; U.S. Robotics and Supra, just to name a couple off the top of my head. If you are NOT using an 850 is where you would be looking for a compatibility list for SIO compatible modems. 19Echo
I have an Hayes Accura 14 + Fax It is hooked up to what I presume is Com 1 on the interface. But now that I think about it I do have an SIO2PC cable hooked up to com 1 on my PC and am accessing the atr images thru there. Could that be the conflict? Or should it matter which RS232 port I use? classics
Did you disable hardware flow control in the modem before attaching it to the Atari? If not, try typing (blindly, it wont echo) AT&K0<RETURN> in ASCII mode to the modem from BobTerm. Steve
19Echo
Well, The error I am getting when Bob Term 1.20 loads up is: Error: No Modem Handler!!!! If i try to hit any of the menu options, it will sometimes throw me out to dos. I guess i should point out that I am loading the programs thru APE. should I transfer to a disk and try it ? I tried a few other programs as well and thats what I've been pretty much getting. as far as disabling it, where would i go to try that command? Thanks Gary
classics
Well, The error I am getting when Bob Term 1.20 loads up is: Error: No Modem Handler!!!! Might be a handler conflict. Try going into the APE configuration and on the R: emulation tab where it says 'Modem Mode', select "R: Disabled". This will prevent APE from loading its own handler. Then start bobterm again, making sure the 850 interface is on. When BobTerm loads you should hear a long tone as the 850 interface handler is downloaded. If you dont hear the tone, something may be wrong with your 850 interface. as far as disabling it, where would i go to try that command? Once you get past the handler issue, just press <RETURN> to enter terminal mode, then you can type commands to the modem. Steve

dinosaur
Hello! How did you get an 850 to go to 14.4Kbs? I have never run an 850 over 9600bps (9.6Kbps). Interesting........
19Echo
My problem was getting tone just to dial out. I dont think the 850 can go that high.
