happymonster
Ok, yet another mockup from me. I think this one could be done.. It uses 3 alternating playfield lines to create the colours, tiles of 4 x 21 size and a level view of 9 x 9 tiles. There is only vertical scrolling and the logic is less than in Boulderdash. I use both sprites with recolouring for the player sprite, a missile to the right of the screen (recoloured) for the depth display (this is optional), and a couple more players and playfield data at the bottom for a quick status display panel. What do you think?
supercat
What do you think? What's the game? The graphics themselves look like they might be achievable.
Bakasama
Think that this will explain a bit about this game: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8773 I think this game began as an updated version of Dig Dug but it became something else. Impaler_26
A similar game for the 2600 called "Big Dig" was started but never finished... Big_Dig__2004___Christopher_Tumber___Prototype_.bin
8th lutz
Mr. Driller is capable of being done for almost every game console that existed. The game has basic gameplay. Here is a little bit of gameplay video of the game:
supercat
Think that this will explain a bit about this game: It doesn't explain how the player should decide what to drill, etc.
Bakasama
This hopefully explains the gameplay: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Driller
happymonster
I like the solid colours of Big Dig, but the gfx are much simplified. The problem is that there are 4 block colours and a background, so unless you try to come up with sophisticated player/missile work I had to use 3 alternating colour scanlines. If we used 2 colour scanlines we could get 3 colour blocks and the 4th colour would be some kind of pattern, but I don't know if that would look too good.. Any one interested in this? Since I can't program the 2600, I'm just suggesting possible game ideas that people might like.
Shannon
Well if anything, these mockups are fun to look at!! Mr. Driller is a pretty fun game. Hopefully someone will do it.
happymonster
They do take a bit of work though, so I doubt I will do many more of them if no one is too interested.
supercat
They do take a bit of work though, so I doubt I will do many more of them if no one is too interested. This one looks interesting. Many other ideas on my plate at the moment, though.
Cybergoth
They do take a bit of work though, so I doubt I will do many more of them if no one is too interested. There's probably only a dozen active people here that could program such a game, most of which are already doing "something". Some day someone may pick it up though, so it's good to have those mockups Regarding Mr. Driller, I actually prefer the clean look that Christopher chose, the mockup looks very busy. happymonster
It does look busy, but personally I'm not a big fan of very simple gfx. :/
ZylonBane
Then 2600 games are not for you.
vdub_bobby
I'm very interested in seeing mockups of more tiled games - I currently have a supercharger kernel/demo that can handle a scrolling, tiled display - currently 8x7 but could probably get 10x7, 8x8, or 10x8 - and I'm interested in projects for it. No promises, though.
happymonster
Zylon: Many 2600 games prove that not true.
