Ryanw
Last Christmas I got my dad an Atari 2600 with a few games he has mentioned on and off during the years that he enjoyed playing like Pitfall and Space Invaders to name a few. Well now his birthday is coming up and I think it would be awesome to get him his first new Atari game in almost 30 years. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about homebrew games on the 2600 or any other system so I need some help finding one for him. I've looked up the top 10 homebrew games from that topic and it looks like Oystron might be a safest bet. I guess what I'm asking is what 2600 homebrew would make a good gift for a Pitfall/Space Invader/Defender/Galaga fanatic?
ATARIPITBULL
the Atariage Arcade version of Pac-Man & Galaxian are great, so is Lady Bug, Wolfenstein VCS & Go Fish.
Galactus
You can't go wrong with Ladybug or Oystron. There are certainly others, but those are 2 great games.
potatohead
Yeah, get him some home brews. It's very cool to know something was just released, and that you are playing it new. ...and you can always PM the author and say, "thanks". Medieval Mayhem is good, for that multi-player bit of fun. sandmountainslim
I like many of them but my most played right now are StarFire, Wolfenstein and LadyBug. I don't know the one about oysters. Wp
Impaler_26
IMO you should download a 2600 emulator and try out some homebrew games. A few great ones are for example: Lady Bug, Medieval Mayhem, Star Fire, Toyshop Trouble, Hunchy II and Space Battle.
MausGames
Medieval Mayhem or Thrust, two of the best 2600 games period.
midnight magicman
Toyshop Trouble is a must have. Peace
Mirage
LadyBug or Toyshop Trouble. Medieval Mayhem if he'll often have others to play Atari with. Otherwise, any of the Arcade versions of the games he already likes will be hits. Basically agree with the above. All of the homebrews available through AA are winners though, it's hard to go wrong. Thomas Jentzsch
Download and test with an emulator and/or check the reviews section here on AA.
lucifershalo
1.your dad is into Space Invaders and Pitfall so you have to go for that kind of games 2.you have to be careful of the difficulty level of the games not too simple but not high (he wont interested otherwise and will give up) thats why even if I like the game, I wont suggest Oystron, too difficult my suggestions: Lady Bug (if he was an arcade freak) Reindeer Rescue (platform game) and as space game.... if you want an original game: Space Battle of Space Treat or the now released prototype PLEIADES or a space invaders clone
iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin
Medieval Mayhem, Thrust, Ladybug, and the soon available Juno First and Lead!

fsuinnc
Thrust+, Ultra SCSIde, Toyshop trouble, Ladybug, Star Fire, Seawolf, Elevators Amiss, Pesco, Blip Football, Backfire There are many great Homebrews but to me this list represents exceptional games that have a nice 80's kind of feel. Lord Helmet
IMO you should download a 2600 emulator and try out some homebrew games. Exactly No excuse not to try out nearly all of the homebrew games.
littleman jack
All the homebrews that I've bought or tried have been very, very good. My favorite is Seawolf. I think that's a very good bet because it is a vertical shooter like Space Invaders, but with a lot more going on. And if he likes Defender, Oystron is an excellent choice. It's kind of a one screen Defender of sorts. Once you get the hang of how to play, it is extremely addictive and fun. You fly around, shoot, collect, defend. Great fun. Ryanw
I've taken everyone's advice and tried out some homebrews through emulation (which turned out to be a lot easier then I thought). So far Lady Bug seems to be my favorite and I'm probably going to get that for his birthday Thanks again!
