Taito Legends Impressions...

Recommended Posts

p.s. The Xbox version uses MAME.

Yep.. the rom names are the same, etc. etc.. And you know how in Mame the emulated sounds for Phoenix are off? Yep.. it's in there.

Oddly this doesn't seem to be the case for the Playstation 2 versions (both of them) which have different sets of games than this U.S. Xbox version more or less. But then again, I dunno. All I know is by all indications, Xbox Taito Legends == MAME.

Yes!

Its out in Ireland, so I assume Europe has launched it (xplosiv are the publisher). I also picked up Midway Arcade Treasures 3, so a fun evening ahead when the baby goes to sleepy land!

So, there is Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Arcade Collection, Tecmo Classic Arcade and Capcom Classics Collection also to look forward to this year!

And, according to the card inside Taito Legends, volume 2 with 40 titles in due early 2006! Sweet! :lust:

Damn! Was the original version of The New Zealand Story supposed to have no way to continue?

I thought that when you died there was a small chance that you'd play a mini-game where you had to touch the Virgin Mary. If you did you were allowed to continue, but the mini-game didn't pop up all the time and was random. I swear I read that somewhere.

You know since we're on teh subject of compilations, and I didn't see a thread for it...how's the tecmo collection? I am intrigued by Plieades.

Of the compilations I got that day (Midway 3, Capcom and Temco), Temco was the weakest of the bunch. Even an avid gamer like myself, there was very few games that I recalled from the arcade - and it was the most expensive of the bunch ($30 vs $20 for the other two).

Star Force was the best of the disc - a solid if not exceptionaly outstanding Space Invaders clone. Rygar was the next favorite of the disc, a pretty fun side scroller. Pleiads didnt really make an impression on me - neither good or bad.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably leave that on the shelf. Really, it was Capcom that won the day for me. You just cant beat Ghosts and Goblins.
