Nice...no box though...

I think it's fine to call something mint so long as there's no noticeable wear of any kind to the item. I rarely use mint without the near prefix though, I think it's hard to say exactly what will set off some ebayers, and listing something as mint can get you in trouble. Subjective grading will always be open to debate. Listing something as perfect can get you in trouble too, as bjk recently found out.

I have tried to avoid using words such as "mint", "excellent", "great" and similar descriptive words because some buyers are extremely picky. Even if the item is mint I no longer state that in my auctions.

Dustin makes a premium on his auctions by pointing out how his heavy sixer auctions contain all original parts.  I never knew the original power supply was all grey until I read it in one of his auctions.  If you are uninformed, you could buy something from ebay thinking you have a heavy sixer, but end up with a black power supply, replacement hex plates, radio shack RF, and a picture label combat.

I have seen both kinds from the "wild", he is misinformed. He buys/bought most of his stock from Povlok1 and collects his "knowledge" from him and the internet. And whilst he is correct about the power supply being the all grey one, this is only the case of the first shipments, Atari replaced it with the other grey one in later shipments. That is why the Sears heavy sixers come with the other grey power supply. I have personally picked up a CIB heavy sixer from an old woman in the suburbs of the bay-area in the past and found one of the "non-shiny" hex-plates and the later grey power supply in the box.

I thought I should say something on this forum in response to the above statement. How can CPU wiz can say that I am misinformed and where I get my information and my "stock" when he doesn't even know me? If you want to know about my experiences as a collector/trader/ebay seller, then ask me sometime - I definately do not get my infor or my "stock" from just povlok1 or ebaay. Also I think he is bringing to light his own deceptions about the hex plates he has sold in the past on ebay, some of which have been bought by atariagers that seem to think that just because he is a moderator that he is the best source for quality atari gear. Ask him where he has been getting his hex plates from - they are from B & C and they are not originals. I feel sorry for the many buyers who have bought his "heavy sixer joysticks" in the past.

There were some heavy sixers shipped with black power supplies too - but not the familiar cube style with the Atari logo and fine print on a metal plate on the front. The early black wall wart has 2 large-radius curved edges on top and a raised rim around the front side, with sides slightly tapered inward toward the bottom and only a large white "Fuji" Atari logo printed on the front. The top and 2 sides have a coarse lizardskin-leather style texture.

[PHONE CONVERSATION]

CPUWIZ: "Dude, how does Dustin get these prices?"

Povlok1: "Hehe, clever descriptions."

CPUWIZ: "You know him?"

Povlok1: "Yep, he gets most of his stock from me."

CPUWIZ: "What do you mean?"

Povlok1: "I just shipped him about 4 or 5 complete heavy sixers."

CPUWIZ: "I see."

blah blah blah

Deceptions? Most of the listings, that had B&C plates on them, stated that the sticks were fully restored. Not originals? What do you smoke dude? And not all of the sticks were restored, if you had any kind of patience (or short time memory), you would remember that I just posted on the previous page, that I picked up a stick with the same kind of hex plate from an old lady.

Speaking of deceptions... (We won't mention the hex-plate that you peeled of the front of a heavy sixer - oh wait, I just did.)

"If the console has been opened and cleaned, this should be a red flag to the buyer because an opened Atari is no longer completely "original" because it may have been tampered or damaged in some way. I would never consider buying a Heavy Sixer that has been opened unless I know for sure that the person who opened it was a professional. This console has NOT been opened and refurbished - instead it apparently was barely played and has remained perfectly preserved."

I bet you money, that every single one of the heavy sixers you got from Povlok1, were opened and cleaned.

Flame on...

@A.J.F.: You are completely correct, I forgot about the all black power supply.

I think Atari was in such a frenzy trying to get as many units out the door as possible those first few years, that there were probably many many changes made. And until you run across one for yourself, it's hard to sit back & say something doesn't exist, or didn't look a certain way without question.

I saw pictures of a unit back in May that had an original hex stuck to the front left woodgrain panel. I can't recall whether it was shiny or not though.

Black power supply? :?

I have the same black power supply.  I believe it came with the rough control panel heavy-sixer... :ponder: .  I have one of those also... .

rough control panel HS? :?

I'm curious whether the black power supply I posted above was build during the 11th week of '77 or the 11th month of '77 :ponder:

It has Atari, INC Sunnyvale, CA, but then says made in Mexico

I have a Los Gatos, CA power supply here as well that has a standard 3 digit date stamp between the prongs, 397 as in 39th week of '77

I'll have to find the systems and take a picture side by side. The control panels are different...One type of sixer has a type of sticker with the controls printed on it. The other has the printing painted right onto the plastic of the unit(giving the control panel a rough look). It looks pretty cool actual, instead of the control panel looking kind of gray...it's jet black... !

:D
