Rogue on 5200

So, if you read my blog, I've been talking a little bit about porting Rogue either to the 5200, 8bits, or 7800. I want to port it to 5200, the other two are just my "keeping my options open." I've never programmed for the 8-bits before, so I'm still reading atariarchives.org and all that good stuff trying to get up to speed.

Anyway, here's my point in posting this. Rogue pretty much requires a keyboard, right? How would one play Rogue on a 5200 with keypad and joystick? Could it be done, or would the gameplay suffer too much as to actually be enjoyable? I think it'd be okay, using all the keys on the keypad, but on ne sais jamais. It'll be a while before there's any visible sign of progress here, I'm still getting atari++ set up on my Mac :)

I am working on some socket connectivity routines for 8 bits (xl and xe ), and I plan to do something vaugely rogue-like and multiplayer. If you have an internet connection and can run a SIO2PC type serial cable from your atari ( or possibly use the serial/ip capabilities of the emulator ), you could help me test them out in a few eeks. PM me if you want and I will put you on my list of testers. The first thing I am doing is to have a multi-chat session available with up to 4 people.

About the 5200, I would think it'd be a pain without an actual keyboard.
