Songbird
EDIT: Ack! Where has the time gone? This was originally the "Lynx Multicart 2006" thread, and here we are about to enter 2008! Therefore I have renamed the thread and provided the complete list of final programs on the cart. Several Lynx developers have expressed their desire to contribute to a Lynx multicart for 2006, and Songbird has agreed to sponsor the project. Here are the details: 1. The multicart needs at least 3 "main" (not necessarily large) games to make it worthwhile. Other demos/gizmos like sound tools, 3D demos, smaller games, etc. may be acceptable to fill up the ROM, but will not be the highlight of the multicart. 2. Everyone who contributes at least one program on the final multicart will receive a complimentary cartridge upon publication. 3. There will be a pool of USD$500 to sponsor the games. Everyone who contributes a "main" game on the final multicart will receive a one-time payment of at least USD$100. If we have too many submissions (a good problem to have ), then a second multicart will be developed after the first one is published. 4. By allowing your program on the multicart, you hereby agree that Songbird Productions receives exclusive worldwide distribution rights. This means you cannot sell, distribute, or publish these programs apart from Songbird. However, you would be allowed to retain the source code, graphics, and audio, so you can certainly create future games based on these efforts (even sequels) without restriction. 5. Songbird Productions and/or the Lynx developer list will provide testing and feedback on each program. Therefore fixes and enhancements may need to be made to some programs prior to acceptance on the multicart. 6. All programs must be free from obscenity, pornography, excessive violence, or other material deemed objectionable by Songbird Productions. 7. All programs must be original works free from any third party copyright infringements. 8. A menu and minimal game standards (such as reserved RAM, handling reset buttons, etc.) need to be developed. Karri has taken the lead on this currently, but suggestions are welcome. 9. Final program submissions are due June 1, 2006. A beta version of each program should be submitted to Songbird Productions at least one month in advance, to allow time for test and feedback. Additional changes may be needed beyond the June 1 deadline to make the program compatible with the multicart. So, I need to know if you have a program you would like to contribute to the multicart. Once I know what the list of candidate programs is, I will determine which games will be the main attractions and let everyone know this. Then I will need confirmation you want your program on the multicart. The confirmed list of games/apps for MegaPak vol. 1: Chopper X - James High Roller - Tony Parafly - Sampo Password - Karri Sketch - Chris SoundTool - Karri Blackjack - Pastel Spirits The expected release date for MegaPak vol. 1 is January 2008! Games which could appear on MegaPak vol. 2: Picross - Chris Squared - Cooper Tetranoid - Frederic & Sebastien Long live the Lynx! +davidcalgary29
Thanks for the great news, Carl! How about setting up a secondary account so that the general community can add to the "pot"? And you know that you have one vote for Lynx Sketch. I love that one.
The_Laird
This is a great idea Carl, I can't wait to see the final line-up. Maybe something could be done with Jim's other games; Befock, Choplifter and Moon Patrol? Anyway keep up the good work and lets hope there is enough for 2 carts! SwedenLynxer
Great news! I hope there will be a lot of candidates for this multicart! The game "Poker" would be a very nice addition to such a multicart http://d.hatena.ne.jp/EXCEED/?of=

Paolo
Heya, Carl! Remember, we discussed this in, ...searching... late 2004. I am absolutely happy that this turned out into something. (I hoped for the Jag, though). PM sent

Songbird
Added the submission deadline. Also, I've received several emails/PMs expressing interest in getting other games not listed above onto the cart... I'd say things are looking pretty good right now that we might have enough to fill a second multicart and use the above list on the first multicart. There are definitely some cool little games out there!
+karri
I just started a new Multicart 2006 Blog Hopefully the project becomes reality in the next few months and we can all enjoy a new type of cart and let the Lynx boldly go where no Lynx has gone before. Because this cart will have some new magic and witchcraft built in . -- karri
jum
Progress on Chopper X: Rebased the code for compiling with "new" cc65 2.11 (big mission, also had to rewrite the audio code), replaced tgi stuff with custom functions, design of stages 2, 3, 4 almost completed. TODO: flip, pause, escape/quit, etc. Some simple tunes. Polishing and tweaking. Note: ChopperX is made to run in 64k - jum

jum
Jum, it seems that you are about to finisch Chopper X? 1023155[/snapback] Yes, it has to be finished before the June deadline for the multicart. But it will be finished way before that, so I can do some fine-tuning/polishing on it to make sure it works 100% slick on a real Lynx. And hopefully also Exceeds Poker. That had a real cute tune also. I would like to have some exotic flavor on the cart and the Poker game sure has it. -- Karri

+karri
Now it is less than two weeks to Vappu or the 1st of May - the Biggest Celebration of the Year - at least where I live. It is the time to dress up in graduation hats, sing about love and spring and drink champagne to the tunes of a marching band and stroll around the streets with balloons. It is also the recommended deadline for preliminary submissions to the Multicart 2006. The real drop-dead line is on the 1st of June. Unfortunately my theater season will also start on the 1st of June which actually means that I will be on stage almost every evening for a month instead of coding the details. So HURRY UP with the submissions please. I would prefer to put the cart together in May. Or at least most of it. -- Karri Edited April 20, 2006 by karri

+karri
Dumb question to the picture:Karri, who are you? *veg* Oh. I am the one on the left and the one who is singing the love songs I cheated and added my picture after Sage's comments. The stupid thing is that I could not find any picture of me in a graduation hat. Besides my hat has a long black tail sticking up from the top. Chaos89-dot-com
Added "Dicee" to the candidate list. Does anyone know the release date on this multicart for the lynx. I am interested in buying one when it is released. LONG LIVE THE LYNX!!!!!
Songbird
No set release date yet. I am hoping for Fall 2006, but we still need to do a lot of testing and final integration before the cart will be anywhere close to ready for publication. That will take at least two more months. And then it's about 8 weeks to get 50+ carts built...

Songbird
Brief update: the cart is still in progress, and some of the games are quite nice. There's still a lot of testing to do and some minor bug fixes as well, so at this point I suspect the release will be late 06 / early 07 at best. Stay tuned! Isgoed
"quite nice"? That doesn't sound too optimistic, Carl
+karri
Well, some titles on the cart are 100% polished and complete. And some still need work. In my opinion we should remove the uncompleted entries and do a final 3 week intensive testing/last bug fix on the remaining entries. And then release it. In my opinion there is a nice international flavour in the cart. We have music and graphics from Japan, the US and Europe on it. The games are also from all cathegories. ChopperX - control your chopper, Parafly - reaction speed, Password - brain teaser, Blackjack - card game. We also have small utilities on the cart for playing around with the screen and the sound chips. And I also hope to bring in the PSP-like user interface where you can watch images, listen to tunes and set your backgrounds and color schemes. And somewhere hidden in there lies a map to a treasure... -- Karri
