Atari CX-8XX line

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get a list together of the various beige products that Atari made, or was in the CX-8XX line of product numbers. So far I can remember....

(Edited from comments, and Atari-History.com referrenced)

X-800 Computer

* CX-800-DS Developers System

CX-801 10K Rom OS

* CX-801P 10 Rom OS (Pal)

CX-810 Floppy Drive

CX-815 Dual Disk System

* CX-816/817 Prototypes

CX-820 Drum Printer

CX-822 Thermal Printer

CX-825 80 Column Printer

* CX-827 (Proto 80 Column printer - just recently found an engineering sheet and a sample label as well

CX-830 Acoustic Coupler Modem

CX-835 Direct Connect Modem

* CX-837 (300/1200 DC Modem Prototype)

CX-85 Numeric Keypad

CX-850 Interface Module

CX-852 8K Ram board

CX-853 16K Ram board I know there was a dual drive and a thermal printer in there as well. Forgot their numbers.

So what other ones were out there? And if a third party used a CX-8XX number (I think I have one printer interface that did) throw those in as well.

Thanks!

How about the beige 410 program recorder and the CX70 beige light pen...

Would love to find a light pen somewhere...

Best Electronics has the CX75 (I assume the replacement for the CX70) lightpen for sale for $25.00. It comes NIB with an Atarigraphics cartridge&manual.

There's also the CX77 Atari Touchtablet, but then while these are "CX" they are not the CX8xxx series really, I'm not even sure if they came out for the 800 line or if they were released during the 1200/600/800XL line. However, the lightpen software cartridge is designated CX8054 apparently. Lots of cartridges with the CX8xx designation...

Here's the CX75 on E-bay for cheap, but no box: http://cgi.ebay.com/Light-Pen-CX75-800-XL-...1QQcmdZViewItem

*  CX-816/817 Prototypes

Prototypes of what?

1016067[/snapback]

Going with the progression of the numbers...

CX-800-809 Computer and rom boards

CX-810-819 Drive systems

CX-820-829 Printers

CX-830-329 Modems

CX-840-850 Interface modules

CX-851-859 Ram board modules

So 816 and 817 going by the numbers were probably a drive system of some type.

Main reason to find out what HAS existed was to honor what was, and see what numbers are still left for future projects related to the 800.

Interesting to note, I found a SIO to Parallel printer interface today in biege plastic case (kinda matches the 800 color)by Axiom Corp called the "Axiom AT-846". Was this company sticking the "846" into the number sequence that we have above?

And what if, for example, Atari continued doubling the ram modules in size? (And somehow broke the 48K barrier for the Atari 800)? Would we have seen...

CX-851 4K (theoretical)

CX-852 8K (actual)

CX-853 16K (actual)

CX-854 32K ("Ramcram" & "Mosiac" boards, etc)

CX-855 64K

CX-856 128K

CX-857 256K

CX-858 512K

CX-859 1024K

Well, before this thread fads off, just wanted to thank all for their time in answering and if you find any more CX-8xx numbers, please add them to this thread.

Wow! I never realized there was a separate beige line.

A beige 800 probably would have held up better than my khaki (or was it originally tan?) 800. It's sort of a puke green now! Yuck!

But it still works!

Th beige line is interesting alright. Naturally all the products are the oldest of the 8-bit batch and sometimes less capible, but the 800 itself is shoing itself to be adaptable. :)

CX? Not sure.
