The PSG is the NES's pulse sound generator which, according to this, was added onto the die of the 2A03 (the 6502 variant the NES uses). I don't believe the microprocessor core itself is any different, though. I think you're wasting your time trying to explain things to him; if he had read what I told him to, he could have found out the differences between Sally and a vanilla 6502 within five minutes.
