DEBRO
Hi there, I have a SIO2PC cable and it works great for my old PC. Is there a SIO2USB cable available?
Rybags
No. Only the USB flashcart at http://www.atarimax.com Ataris SIO is way to slow to talk to most USB devices.
Beetle
You can hook up a RS232-2-USB adapter to your usb-port. Then connect the sio2pc cable. Some people use it that way, as far as i read. Regards, Beetle
Mathy
Howdy folks The guys that brought you the USB cartridge are now working on an interface that lets you connect USB devices to your Atari via SIO. Ofcourse, drivers will have to be written for all the USB devices. But using it as a USB version of SIO2PC is possible. Tschibo00
I simply bought an USB-serial converter for about 10 Euro. Works perfectly on my desktop and the laptop.
danwinslow
Well, we are talking about an Atari USB side, not PC.
Beetle
The initial question was I have a SIO2PC cable and it works great for my old PC. Is there a SIO2USB cable available? That means DEBRO has a new PC with USB only. He's looking for an interface from SIO to USB. So perhaps some people were talkin about USB (Atari side) - DEBRO was not. Wrathchild
So if Debro has currently an SIO2PC (Serial) cable and wants to have an SIO2PC (USB) cable then I'd take Tschibo00's suggestion of getting a Serial2Usb adaptor. Wouldn't an SIO2USB cable be one that permits a USB device to be plugged directly to the SIO port, something not around (yet) but I think Carsten hinted someone was working on such a thing? DEBRO
That means DEBRO has a new PC with USB only. He's looking for an interface from SIO to USB. So perhaps some people were talkin about USB (Atari side) - DEBRO was not. You're right. When I wrote SIO2USB I was thinking having a SIO cable going from the A8 to my USB port like the SIO cable goes from the A8 to the PC. Mathy
Howdy folks ... but I think Carsten hinted someone was working onsuch a thing? Carsten did. Thomas Grasel and Harry Reminder are working on such a device. Check out this site for some evidence. You can partly see the SIO2USB interface in the 7th and 8th picture from the top (if I counted correctly). It's the rectangular device with the greenish/blueish (3 or 4 lines of text) display. cas
Ataris SIO is way to slow to talk to most USB devices. Well, not quite true. Even if USB is faster that Atari SIO, it is possible to talk to most USB Devices v e r y s l o w. You can even do USB Communication with the USB Cart with a driver written in plain Atari Basic. There is no lower speed limit in USB, which is quite nice. What Mathy said is correct about SIO2USB Project. With SIO2USB, it will be possible to connect USB Storage (Flash Sticks and Harddrives) to Atari SIO without any driver on the Atari Side. The USB Device will be "seen" by the Atari as a enhanced 1050 drive, just like the PC is seen with SIO2PC. When comparing SIO2USB with SIO2PC, just replace PC with USB Storage. Wilheim
I simply bought an USB-serial converter for about 10 Euro. Works perfectly on my desktop and the laptop. I bought a USB-serial converter, based on PL2303Hx chip, but it works awfully. Do you know what chipset your adapter uses?
zektor800
Steven Tucker said he is working out the kinks on a USB adapter right now, and it should be ready for pre-order soon. So, I am guessing USB is fast enough to handle it
