dinosaur
Hello! I came across a reference to this game CYGNUS X1 and found it on Atarimania. Cygnus_X1.zip The problem is,it unzips to a .cas file. I understand that this is a cassette file. ( Lord,do I remember them from the early '80s ) How can I turn this into an .atr file? Thanks. deathtrappomegranate
Why do you want to turn it into an .atr? Edited October 19, 2006 by deathtrappomegranate
dinosaur
Why do you want to turn it into an .atr? Well..because my emulator of choice does not support .cas files and I SURE don,t want to go to the trouble to convert it to a tape and drag out my 1010 and wait an eternity for it to load. I found a .com version of CygnusX1 on the Holmessoft disk #170 and extracted it. Here it is: Cygnus.zip You better have better than my 59 year old reflexes to play this puppy! Too tough for me. dinosaur
Am I wrong in thinking that Cygnus X1 plays too fast because it is PAL? Is there any A8 emulator that allows you to run in PAL mode? Thanks. Edited October 20, 2006 by dinosaur
deathtrappomegranate
Yes, it was designed to run at 50Hz, so using an emulator that only runs at 60Hz will make it too fast. No need to blame your "reflexes" ! Atari800Win Plus can be switched between 50/60 Hz and PAL/NTSC easily (and it also supports .cas files). That is certainly the best Windows A8 emulator around, and there's a similar emulator for Macs, too.
dinosaur
Well..... I extracted the A800Win file on the Holmes CDs and set it up. It ran the .cas image @ 50Mhz and I really enjoyed that game! I normally use PCXformer 3.8 because I have an 486dx4/100 laptop that I have set up as an Atari 8bit laptop. It runs MS-DOS 6.22. By the use of batch files, when you turn it on,it displays a full screen Fuji .gif, plays a .wav file "Welcome to the wonderful world of Atari" and goes right into SpartaDos 3.3a.The only non Atari thing that you see is the POST. Drives my PC friends bonkers! I love the look on their faces!
oky2000
I can't get this game to start, it says press fire on joystick and whether I set Atari800win v4 to joystick 1 or 2 and press the key for fire (which works fine in every other game I try so it isn't the keyboard) it does nothing and stays on the title screen/high score screen alternating between the two and NOT STARTING. HELP!!!
