glitch
Someone made some very nice looking boxes for the diagnostic cart, raiden, and AvP. It looks like they're made from VHS cases though which would mean that they're pretty big. "3 rare games"
V.R
As if anyone would pay $79 for some VHS boxes, bit expensive for my liking.
PFG 9000
They're well made, but the price is horrendous. The AvP box is a blatant ripoff of the Alien Vs. Predator movie packaging. The whole project probably took about five hours on Photoshop. A good deal of work, yes, but nowhere near worth $80 in my book when I could do the same thing myself. Video
That MIGHT be worht it, if the games came with it. The auction is carefully worded to give the impression that the games are included, without actually saying that they are. My gess, their selling just the boxes (which are nice looking IMO) but the boxes aren't worth anywhere near that. But the fact that he got a bid at $80, shows that I need to start doing some of these. At paying roughly a dollor for three boxes, and another dollar for ink, and paper, etc, then that would be a good income.
glitch
It appears to me that the games are included. I don't see anywhere where it states just the boxes. As a matter of fact I don't see where it even implies the boxes are included. It may just be the games. If the 3 games are included it could be worth the opening $80 since these regularly sell for at least $30 each. I just thought the boxes were a nice touch although a VHS size box for a Lynx games seems like a bit of overkill to me. Now beta boxes on the other hand.... Albert
I would assume the games are included, but if it is just the boxes then yeah, that is a pretty big ripoff. I'd certainly write the seller and ask for clarification before I put in a bid! ..Al
Fadest
Cartridges are probably included, but not the versions sold by B&C or whoever sold this. It is probably home made cartridge.
Atari Smeghead
Just so's ya know, I asked the seller about the auction. He's from Poland, so there wasn't much verbosity in his replies. All I asked him was, are the game cartridges and boxes included in the auction, and he said yes. In fact, he said... I sell box + cardritge games ( 3 games ) and Yes , all games tested all games work So, I decided to buy them. I've been trying to get Raiden for some time, and the last cart only auction recently ended at just shy of $60. So, I figured, $85 total for Raiden, AvP (which I already have) and the Diagnostic cart (which I do not) was a pretty decent deal. I even opted for "Motocross Go" which I assume is Motorcycle Go / Marlboro Go, since he threw it in for $20 with no additional shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1 The seller already told me that my package is on it's way. I'll let you all know what comes of this auction. If I can figure out how, I can even post pictures of the carts/boxes here. From what I gather, he's not making these carts himself. I looked back, and the only Lynx thing I could find in his feedback was that he has sold one AvP game/box. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=170037104903 .How he has the cart labelled and the stryo packaging around the cart... looks like some nice touches to an already established product. I mean, if he's making the carts on his own, somehow, and selling them for $30 or so... not the best business model I can think of. Again, I'll report back once I receive the package. Atari Smeghead
Well, I received the carts and boxes yesterday. Like ya thought, the cases are merely VCR boxes with pretty decent quality printed paper slid between the plastic box and the clear plastic covering. It's printed on both front and back as well as the spine. I'm happy with the quality, but there was nothing else inside the boxes. That other AvP auction had some sort of styrofoam material to keep the chip form bouncing around. In this case, the seller took all four carts and put them into one box. (Imagine my shock when I opened the first box and it was empty! Luckily, the second box I opened had all four.) I'm not sure if "home-made" fits it quite right for the cartridges themselves, since they are of a high quality. The carts are the simple green PCB with the big chip on the front, a bit like Othello or the B&C carts. But they are a lot "emptier" on the front. Just a couple of connector wires and some printing. They have printed on the front, "256kB Atari Lynx Game Cartridge PCB pasiu/ssg". The chips each have the logo/name of the game/program adhered to it, printed in full color, off the same printer as printed the box art. No instructions, which doesn't surprise me. I was hoping for Raiden instructions, but that's all right. Seriously, how does someone "homebrew" Lynx carts? Seems like a cost-prohibitive endeavour. I wouldn't have clue one. All I know is, of the four games I bought, all work fine except for AvP. The title screen comes up, but nothing more happens. I have a copy of this game that I bought from B&C Computers some time ago, so I had a copy to compare it to. That copy has the same title screen, then flashes, and the words "Not For Resale" are printed over the top of the title screen. Then, the music starts and the game starts running. The new one never shows "Not For Resale" and never starts playing. The seller said he'd replace it for me, so if that happens, it'd be good. I'd be happy to post pictures, but I'm not sure I know how. I think I have to host the pictures somewhere, but I don't have such a place. If anyone would allow me some hosting space on a website somewhere, I'd be happy to post pictures of what they look like. (Er, and actually tell me how to post pictures here... ) Cheers, Smeg
semicolo
it's not so expensive to have some pcb done, about 3$ per board depending on the volume. I'd say it costs less than 10$ to have such a cartridge. Your could use some free hosting web like http://imageshack.us/ just upload the pictures and copy the link it'll give you. EricDeLee
I'd love to see the pics of these... I too need to get Raiden. I think this is a steal of a deal if the games work. (hopefully the AvP game will get replaced for you)
bohoki
yea i wish i could make a raiden myself raher than pay someone else for a pireat copy pirate is such a strong word it would be like someone making atari combat cartridges for sale but i think toei or micronet ought to get a check it would probably be better if someone could come up with a adapter to take a flashdrive
Atari Smeghead
Okay, here we go. Forgive the picture quality here... this Fuji camera is by far the worst digital camera I have ever owned. I literally have to take 5-10 pics to get one that's not blurry. I'd assume it was my own ineptitude, but the other three HP camera I've owned/used all took clear pics pretty much every time. You've already seen the fronts and spines of these boxes, so here's the back: Only two of them have different pics on the back... screen shots from the game. (I also included a pic of that guy's AvP next to B&C's AvP in the "How many Lynx games do you have" thread.) So, I played/booted up all four carts, and as mentioned, all but AvP work fine. I would like to know why the guy labeled Marlboro Go's box as Motocross Go, since it is the exact same version I used to have from B&C. Also, I played a bit of Raiden and it seems to be the complete game. I'll keep at it and do my best to confirm that. So, I assume we're under the impression that this guy has gotten ahold of the ROMS and is just creating his own copies? I suppose that since other companies are making their own AvP, diagnostic and Marlboro Go carts, that this isn't SUCH a bad thing... but Raiden? Yes, it's really hard to come by, but it is still "commercially available" directly through Telegames UK / Direct4Games (but would've cost me over $100 to get it here in the USA.) I wonder if they'll crack down on this guy? I also wonder if he'll start producing other games/demos that are out there. Could this be a problem if he found, say, EOTB or that baseball one that still hasn't seen the light of day (Relief Pitcher?) and started making copies of those? Could really ruffle some feathers, huh? Cheers, Smeg
EricDeLee
I know he will sell other copies. I'm after the Raiden in particular.
Atari Smeghead
To finish up this thread, I received my new copy of AvP from the seller. It works exactly the same as B&C's version. So, the fellow kept his word and I gave him positive feedback. There ya have it! Smeg
EricDeLee
I haven't heard back from him yet... and I'm after the Raiden game
