Source (or explanation) of Autorun.Sys for Basic?

Does anyone have one (or a link) that has commented source code or could add some comments as to what is happening in the prog?

Peripheral Emulator for ST

I never had an ST (I was and still am an Atari 8 bit fan), but now I would like to get my hands on one, however my knowledge of ST doesn't go beyond it's tech specs.,

Anyhow I was just wondering if there is a PC software available which will act as a peripheral emulator for ST (i.e. will emulate disk drives so that ST can boot from it or just use it like a real disk), Atari 8 bits can do this with SIO2PC interface (interface hardware + emulation software running on PC).

I'm considering getting into collecting 8-Bit games and was wondering what the best system to get would be. I'll probably start with cartridges, and work my way up to disk / cassette. Would an XEGS do the trick? Does it play the older cartridges? How much RAM would I need to run things smoothly? So many questions!

Anyone have any issues with Time Pilot?

Anyone have an issue playing Time Pilot on a 7800?

I bought 2 Time Pilot carts from a local store, and niether of them played on my 7800. He took them both back, and even he couldn't get them to work on his in-store 2600.

I just chalked that experience as two broken carts and moved on.

I recently bought a Time Pilot cart on ebay, and IT TOO won't work on my 7800.

I think three is a bit of a stretch to look on as conincedence, don't you think?

I've yet to have issue playing a cart other than this.

Could it be that Time Pilot doesn't play on the 7800?

I couldn't play Kool-Aid on my 2600 Jr., but that is a documented case of a cart not working on a particular hardware.

I also cannot get Burger Time to play on my 7800. The man will only run right and the game stops. This has been noted by a few other gamers as well.

But does anyone know about Time Pilot issues?? I only own a 7800. I don't have a 2600 or a 2600 jr to test on also!

Dead 800XL?

Hi,

I received my Atari 800XL today from an ebay auction (eBay Auction -- Item Number: 190631022856 I won but it doesn't boot up.
I tried both the RF and the monitor port and the tv is detecting something but no picture is shown.
I also don't hear any sound that I normally hear when I boot up an Atari.
I'm looking for some suggestions to determine what might be wrong with it.
I did open it up and it looks in good condition.
All chips are in sockets and I pushed down everyone to make sure they weren't dislodged during shipping but this didn't help.
One thing I noticed is that 2 ram chips get really hot. Could this prevent the unit from booting up?

Any advice would be helpful.

All Pokey Magazines and Mega Magazines online

Hi guys,

Stichting Pokey or The Pokey Foundation was the only Dutch Atari user group in the nineties. In total 57 Dutch magazines were published, 3 English language issues of "The Best of Pokey" and in total 8 Mega Magazines. We have now renewed our website www.pokey.nl and offer every magazine for you to download (in ATR format). Thanks to Marius Diepenhorst for converting the Dutch magazines!

Mega Magazine 8 is not yet available for download at this moment, but it will be available within a few weeks. In the next coming months we will add further titles, some rare Pokey demos and information disks.

I hope you will enjoy this legacy!

Kind regards,

Miner 2049'er High Score List

I've never entered the "High Score Club" area before today, but therealbountybob pointed me here from a jumpman request that I made in another forum.

For the last few weeks I've been playing Miner 2049'er and Bounty Bob Strikes Back! on my Atari 130XE. Today was the first time that I ever finally completed all ten levels without dying (and that's after nearly 30 years of playing this game on various platforms). I think my score is pretty high and I'm curious as to where I stand. I see that a contest was held for this game back in 2006. The results are here:

Miner 2049'er High Score Contest (December 2006)

I checked my score against the scores posted back in Dec. 2006 and I see that my score from yesterday would top the list. Is there a place where there is a top score EVER? I'd like to see how I fall in the rankings.

For those interested, here is a VERY brief paragraph-long summary of my game:

Yesterday I got all the way through from level 1 to level 10 with two guys left in reserve. It's a good thing too, because I killed them both and then I was on my last guy and I still had to finish the tenth level... but... I FINALLY beat it! I completed a "Grand Loop!" (as the Jumpman lingo goes). I went from level 1 to level 10. Ah, but that's not all. Then, on that ONE guy, I kept playing and playing... and playing. In the end I managed to play from Station 1, Zone 1 to Station 9, Zone 2. That means I cleared eighteen levels and I was playing the nineteenth level.

My final score was 88,485 points!

I'm really hoping that there is a place to compare my score. Even if I'm crushed and I discovered that people score millions of points I'll still feel pretty good because after all these years I cleared all ten levels without using the built-in cheat code.

Best equipment to mod you Atari 2600 to composite

After doing some research and talking to some people who offer a UK modding service, I am confused which is the best method to use.

DIY Kit
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 300592126324

When I asked another modder if he used the kits he said

“No, I didn't use that kit. I got my parts separately.
To be honest, I would never use those standard connections. I only use gold connections as they produce better quality.

The parts used for this mod are widely available, you just have to know what you are looking for. Also its cheaper than that kit.”

Are the kits better than buying the bit separately, or do they produce equally good results and I should just go with which method is cheaper?

Also are there any other kits available for a PAL Atari 2600?

I've been playing Jumpman and Jumpman Jr. on the Atari 8-bits for many years now. After all these years, while I love the games, I'm still not very good at them. Are there level selects codes for either of these games so that I can practive a level? I've been playing Miner 2049'er and I have been using the built-in level select to practice levels. This has REALLY improved my game and I'm hoping that the Jumpman games have something similar. If not, can someone point me to a cracked version that may have cheats of any kind?
So, anyone have homebrew games and status updates? Really curious on the above.

POKEY keyboard scanning

Confirmation wanted :-)

I want to emulate some shift+key combo's with logic gates, like 74LS/74HCT and was under the impression I need to delay the actual key press a little bit after shift was pressed to get it to work.

After reading the Altirra hardware manual ( chapter 5.8 ) I'm not so sure anymore if I have to delay anything at all.

Does setting the "shift" bit together with another key's bit, simultaneously, give me the right result?

Defender 2000 - Released in '95 or '96?

There seems to be some conflicting information on when this game was released. Or at least, conflicting information as far as I can find right now (most gaming sites are blocked since I'm at work). When was Defender 2000 released? I am told some sites (like MobyGames) list it as '96. However, the manual scan in the AtariAge database has a copyright date of 1995. Does anyone know for sure? Perhaps someone who actually bought the game way-back-when can vouch? I'm not necessarily looking for an exact month or day, I'd just like to know what year it was actually released in.

*edit: Sites claim that Zoop, NBA Jam T.E., and Attack of the Mutant Penguins were also released in '96 (FFL not withstanding, of course), so if that's true, maybe D2K being released then isn't so far off. The title screen and instructions say '95 though. Perhaps it just wasn't put out to the public until '96.

Rev B Basic Cartridge

Anyone have any idea on this cart. I don't think they ever made revision b carts and it is in a Star Raiders Cart with handwritten stick on. Has an empty socket as well. It does work though. Is it a cart someone burnt for themselves. Have had it for several years and don't remember where I got it from.
