This game sux it is so corny on the talking part heck I was tired of sitting there wiating on the storyline when I wanna play a game I wanna play not sit and listen for an hour!

to a point it is fun but...it feels like half of the stuff you do you aren't even doing I don't know maybe it will get better as I get further into it.

I will give it a fair chance

I'm enjoying it. There are some control issues, and a few glitches in a couple of the levels. But the core of the game is fun, and it gets better as it goes along. It's not an A title, but it has a lot more positive going for it than negative.

Also, I spent some more time with the minigames. The games themselves are pretty good. But the board games they're wrapped up in are pretty slow and clunky. I played a couple of them with an 8 year old over the weekend, and it was pretty fun. But there's not a good way to play them single player. If you've got friends and family to play with, it's fun (although there's lots of randomness, so don't expect anything too deep or strategic).

You can skip the cut scenes by pressing the + button.

Once I got past the absolutely boring introduction levels, the game got much better. I think pretty much every control problem has been mentioned. The Skill ring stuff doesn't make much sense. Are they there to let you have 4 different skill configurations? Seems kinda pointless to me.

The multiple skill rings are kind of convenient - I have one for pure speed levels, one for 'combat' levels, and one sort of general one with a variety of powers. It saves you from having to set up your powers for each level each time, as what powers you select can make a BIG difference.

I'm liking the game better the more I play. The Pirate world is awesome. The game has a certain addicting quality where I want to keep replaying missions over and over until I get it, even though I might curse at something here and there.

i second that , the pirate world is the best so far.. but i really do miss the music of the dinosaur level.. dont ask but its so fun to sing "Im on a boat ride" with the beat over and over, dont ask why i started singing that .. i guess i was just excited about having my first boat experience. hehe :D

Now what's this all about?

* I've never moved my Wii while a game is loaded or running.
* I've never left my Wii on for long periods except when playing VC, and the disc doesn't spin during.
* I've never left my Wii on for more than a few hours in general anyway according to date/time logs.

So I'm websurfing with the Internet Channel and I get a call that my car's out of the shop. I figure okay, cool, I turn off the TV and leave the Wii on. I come back an hour or 90 minutes later, eat lunch, yadda yadda let's say it was idle for a couple hours on for maybe 3-4 total - about typical for me anyway. Since Sonic and the Secret Rings is already loaded I figure what the hell let's play for a bit. Now mind you here's two more things worth noting about me.

* I'm a clean freak. I hate buying disc games used because they're almost always scratched, so I only do it when I have to, and generally with brand new consoles I don't have to since all the games are available brand new anywhere at Target, Best Buy, you name it.
* I never unload or load a disc with greasy or dirty hands. I challenge any man woman or child alive to find a thumbprint on any discs I own, because I always load them by holding the center spindle and the edge. I've never ever "grabbed" a disc.

I start the game up and work on finishing the first set of page, the one where they teach you all the tilt dash and jump moves, as I had only gotten through 2-3 the last time before I had to shut it down and take the Mrs. to a dental appointment. Once I get through the eighth and final page of the chapter and level up there's a cut scene about the Erazor Jinn. At first the dialogue breaks up a little and I go "Huh, that's weird." Then the screen freezes a couple of times. I go "Huh, I remember my original PlayStation did that during Final Fantasy 9 when the drive started dying." Then I get something I never thought I would see on a brand new console ever: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

Quote

An error has occured. Please hit the eject button on your console, remove the disc, and power down your system. For more information please consult your player's manual.

WHAT THE #%@! IS GOING ON?!!?!

Out of all the people in the world this should happen to, it's not me. I fucking take care of my shit, treat it with kid gloves, hell my Wii has never even so much as left the desk it sits on or the stand it's mounted in, and to my naked eye there's not a scratch on the Sonic disc nor SHOULD there be considering it's a brand new game and only been out of the shrinkwrap for about a week.

Advice, anyone? How long should I leave the Wii off before trying again? I dread calling Nintendo for repairs because (1.) I wouldn't get my Wii back for who knows how long and (2.) They'd probably end up wiping all my saved game data and Virtual Console games in the process and (3.) Who says they wouldn't just replace it with a new or refurbished unit anyway, to the same effect?

I'm pissed now.

You have not tried it since it gave you the error message?

I would let it cool down a few minutes and try it again. If that doesn't work make the call to customer service.

The Wii when sitting idle (orange power light) does seem quite warm. Running, it seems cool compared to my PS3 and 360....I can almost heat my house with those two. :)

Okay I just turned it back on again. According to the calendar I had the Internet Channel Trial Version on for 3:30, and The Secret Rings open for SIX MINUTES. The fucking Wii locked up and died after spinning a disc for SIX MINUTES. Well let's see what happens this time.

Best of luck with your Wii MMF. I totally agree that this shouldn't happen when you take care of your stuff. (I am as protective of my systems and games as you are)

I wouldn't panic, i got that message the very first time i put Wii Sports into my console. Popped it out, restarted the system, and it worked fine. It's happened maybe three times total....i never even though about it, i thought we were just at a point where we expect our consoles to flip out once in a while. Status quo for disc-based systems as far as i can tell.

The only time my Wii's really scared me was tonight, finally got it online and it locked up between leaving a channel and going back to the menu. No controller response, no response to the power button, popped the disc in and out a couple times, nothing. I had to unplug it. :(

dude, its fine. i had that happen to me with excite truck when i first got my system after christmas, and had the "oooohhhh crap" feeling when it froze (btw, it froze the sound too)...

i got the same error message and powered off. i immediately turned it back on , cautiously, and its been fine ever since.

dont worry, itll be fine. and im the same way with my disks. i let my roomate borrow my star wars republic commando disk ... he forgot about it and left it on his desk ... bare... inbetween shit for over two weeks. now its all scratched up and looks horrible, still have yet to see if it even boots.

To make a long story short, you guys were right. I played Sonic for an hour and a half tonight after Impact and it didn't freeze or lock up again, never even saw or heard a single skip. Aside from the annoying issues of trying to control Sonic himself with the Wiimote (every time I play this game it occurs to me every "force feedback" motion I make could have been far more easily mapped to a Wavebird) it's working just fine.

Still, I never want to see a BSOD on my Wii EVER again. 'Bout gave me a f'n heart attack.

Well it's been about a year ago actually, and my wife bought me a DS Lite as an early birthday/wedding anniversary present, so I was only DS-less for about a week max. I would have sent it to Nintendo for repair but they wanted at least $75 and a Lite was only $50 more so it seemed fruitless (I was just a month or so past warranty).

At times like these it just makes me appreciate that my old Ataris and Ninendos work all that much more. You can always say proper handling prevents piss poor performance, but I'm sure I've dropped a Sega Genesis at least once or twice and those things NEVER die. There really is something to be said for cart based technology.

Maybe they were just impressed that someone used a Gamecube often enough to break it. :D

first of all at the time the gamecube really wasnt in my possesion that long at the time, and second of all.. just for that, im going to so bitch slap you haha :)

on a more seroius note, what can i say, i was a star wars rogue squardron II-aholic.. besides ikaruga i think its it the only game ive played on my wii thats a cube game. either way, i have, and have had way too many cube games to preoccupy my time... unlike the *00 fps on the xbox ;) (right back at ya haha)

nintendo offers as close as i can get to sega type games, so i play what i can get. nintendo is the last of the great classic console makers still alive.. how can you not love thier games :)

and holy crap, if i read your odd form of english correctly below your avatar, your from dayton ohio? freakin small world i go to UD. oddly enough even though it wasnt purposeful, the student neighborhood is nicknamed the ghetto, so i guess im not lieing.

Oh, don't think i didn't play the hell out of my Gamecube. I just abandoned it when they stopped putting out good games 2 years ago. :)

And yeah, i do indeed live in the Dayton area. Centerville, to be exact. Mmm, suburbs.

Glad your Wii is functional again, MMF. Here's to no more scares. :)

I wouldn't worry a whole bunch about it, unless it gets to be a repeat offense that occurs very often.

The Wii is, at heart, just a computer. And computers today are very contrary and finicky sometimes concerning hardware hiccups and the like. One rule of thumb for computers that should fix the problem: "If it screws up bad, don't panic. Turn it off. Wait 10 seconds. Turn it on. If it's still screwed up, then you have a problem and can panic."

Good rule of thumb to live by. My Wii froze the other night while playing Red Steel. The worst part about that was I was on one of the last levels, and I was very near the save point, but it froze just shy of that, so I had to redo a good chunk of that game (a very difficult part to me :x ). Yeah, no fun. But no real harm done. :P

Also, FWIW, Nintendo's repair policy is that they SEND YOU A NEW WII First, then expect you to ship back the defective one once you receive it. You have to transfer your saves and channels first, though. It would be a PITA to reenter all your contacts but if you don't want to be without the console for any period of time you don't HAVE to.
