Read this article and decide for yourself.

Also I have heard mention that Super Mario Bros. 2 the lost levels is likely scheduled for a US release to the VC lineup. If this is true, then I guess it is possible that Nintendo could change their minds regarding JPN only releases coming over to the US VC...good news....Let's only hope.

They already released it on Super Mario All Stars so technically it did have a US release.

The article hints at much more than Super Mario 2 Lost Levels. It sounds more like some of the Japan RPGs, if the translation could be done properly. Very interesting...

You're right! If this pans out I will squirt. This is the kind of stuff that gets my juices going. I have an issue with paying $5 -$15 for games I either already have an original of or can pick up at the flea market for $3 but to be able to play games that weren't available to the US....especially RPGs WOW!!! Gimmi!! I know some of the import games can be had via emulation, but I agree that playing these games on a PC just aint the same.

SMB: The Lost Levels has been released in NA before, so this isn't that big of a surprise. But As far as releasing games that have never been available before, well I'll believe it when I see it. Putting region locks on the Wii tells me that these kinds of things won't happen, or if they do it will be in small doses. But I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. So Nintendo prove me wrong!

What does putting a lock on so you can't buy a Wii disc game in Japan and play it on your North American Wii have to do with the Virtual Console?

Why do be people keep bringing up Super Mario 2 Lost Levels other than because Crosbow mentioned it? That article doesn't mention SM2 in it at all... or even hint at it. For those that haven't clicked on the link:

Quote

quote from George Harrison, senior vice-president at Nintendo of America:

We are aware that there are some very successful Japanese franchises that have a small following in the US, and that they could never be reached by putting these products out at retail. We're open to games released in Japan if we can get them translated properly.

Aside from cult classics like Mother (predecessor to Earthbound) and the original Fire Emblem games, many English-speaking Nintendo fans have long pined for Treasure's N64 shooter Sin & Punishment, which is already planned for release on the Japanese Virtual Console service. With the storyline already dubbed in English, could this be the first import-only game to get an official VC distribution in the West?

I'm thinking we all know now that Crossbow was mistaken regading SM2 at this point. :P
I certainly hope MCHufnagel is wrong, but I guess we'll know when we know. Now that the seals broken...and by a Nintendo VP no less, Hopefully more news will be coming soon.

We're talking about the company that didn't even bother to release the second series of Super Mario Bros 4 e-Cards in the US. I ceased having any kind of positive expectation from Nintendo a long time ago. Harrison has no real decision-making power. All the real decisions about new releases are made by the mother company in Japan, and the folks at Nintendo of America are just a group of PR yes-men. So whatever Harisson says to the gaming press is just his own opinion. He knows there's money to be made on the VC with certain games like Earthbound that were translated to english but were never released states-side. That doesn't mean the shirts-and-ties in Japan see it that way. I wouldn't even be surprised if someone close to Itawa in Japan contacted Harrison and gave him heat for getting people's hopes up with that kind of public declaration.

Count me in for buying a bunch of VC games if this happens, would be sweet. Right now the only VC games of interest to me are the TurboGrafx ones, I've got most everything else on the original consoles already.
