Yesterday i downloaded Mario 64 for my Wii's Virtual Console, and after a while of playing, i noticed that i got severe headache.

I remember while playing early 3d games back in the nineties, like Doom or Quake, i felt the same...On my first game of Doom after playing for a few hours i even vomitted afterwards, and had heavy headache the whole evening.

I dont have any of these problems with newer games, so i was surprised to have these problems with this old title..

Does somebody know where this "3D-Sickness" from early 3D-games comes from, and why it happens?

No, but I get "Atari Eyes" when I play Elebits for too long. Now that's something I haven't had for a very long time (well, since I was a kid and played Atari for so long my eyes would get buggy, if ya know what I mean).

i dont think its the game, its just some people cant take 3d well. for instance my mom cant watch SSX tricky, f-zero gx, or an other game like that, oh and ace combat, and many racing games, even daytona usa on the saturn. she just gets sick from the illusion of motion. i for one have never had that feeling... odd that you have it on mario, its a fairly slow moving game. but i know that motion sickness in game does occur.

Well this morning I got a bad headache after playing Excite Truck for and hour or two.

As for Mario 64, it could be the highly saturated colors hurting your head.

For me its mostly those midnineties early 3D games, but it got better during the years..I could play Zelda Twilight Princes for 24 hours (and god knows i did :) and dont experience anything, but if i play Ocarina of Time, i start feeling bad after a few minutes.

Most modern 3D games get me slightly motion sick which is why I don't buy that many 3D games. I tend to stick to flying shooters, 2D platformers and puzzle/party games on the modern systems. If I do play a FPS I wear those motion sick wrist bands. It helps a lot and I don;t care about looking silly in my own house.

I just picked up Paper Mario for the N64 because my wife had fond memories and wanted to play it again. I played for about 10 minutes before the headache sat in. Perhaps it's the 50" tv, N64 games were never meant to be seen that huge. I need to hunt down an extention cable so i can play a little further from the tv.

No problems for me so far with Mario 64 on VC. I can usually play the 3D games just fine if they are 3rd person perspective, but almost ANY 1st person perspective will have me sicker than a dog faster than you can say "bring me a bucket".

The weird part is I can play FPS games on a PC just fine. The console FPS games are what doesn me in.

There is a condition that some people have playing 3D games. My wife has it and gets sick playing any 3D games. Call it motion sickness or whatever. I would suggest not playing the game if it gives you headaches.
