Since the NTSC rarity guide is in desparate need of updating, I thought it may be worthwhile listing out what are the 'real' R9s in NTSC format (we have the PAL rarity guide for PAL titles). I'll update this list based upon the responses I get to this thread. This should hopefully give us an understanding of what the true R9s that most people agree are the R9s. I dont expect that we will reach total agreement on all titles and don't want to get into the boxed/unboxed debate - lets stick to loose titles. I'll start a similar thread for R10s and R8s.

R9s

Assault (BOMB)
Cakewalk (Commavid)
Color Bar Generator (Videosoft)
Condor Attack (Ultravision)
Great Escape (BOMB)
Lochjaw (Apollo)
Malagai (Answer)
Out of Control (Avalon Hill)
Rescue Terra I (VentureVision)
River Patrol (Tigervision)
Sea Monster (Puzzy)
Space Tunnel (Puzzy)
Stronghold (Commavid)
Tomarc the Barbarian/Motocross Racer (XONOX)
Video Jogger (Exus)
Video Reflex (Exus)
Wall Defender (BOMB)
X-Man (Universal Gamex)
Z-Tack (BOMB)

Changes from original list:

Added:

Music Machine (Sparrow) - from R10s

Subtracted:

I think the BOMB carts are borderline 10's. Those are damn hard to find in NTSC format in working condition at least.

I would also say a loose Stronghold is more of an 8, I seem to see that one for sale way more than Cakewalk and it always goes considerably cheaper.

It is a lot rarer than people think. I went through the rarity 8 list and Robin Hood was not owned by many people.

I agree that its not a 9 - it comes up for sale way too often. I wouldn't rely on the list. For example, I have it and im not on any list.

Still keeping it a 9. Remember these list's will not exactly match and nor should it. But hopefully this thread can develop a consesus opinion on what is a 9.

I think alot of the 7-10s get traded from collector to collector. Some of the same carts are bought and sold, and then re-sold again over & over. I bought a boxd Glib from a collector/ebayer and later sold it to another member here, who later sold it to another collector/member. Four different collectors owned in a period of 2 years or less.

Also if you found a lot of Atari carts (knowing nothing of them) and were curious about one or two and notice popular brand names like Johnson & Johnson or from the makers of Scrabble, it could pique your interest. I think odd cart designs and odd-ball labels sometimes stand out & make people do a little research on what they are selling.

As time goes by all the rarities appear to be less rare. I think the commons are less rare as well, but no one thinks about them because it's the high rarities that people remember.

These I would say are weak 9's. So are Robin hood, Sword of Saros, and Survival Island. But they are just a little too strong for a rarity 8 in my opinion.

That's a good list. I would add Vulture Attack and Spider Maze in there though. I agree with Music Machine being reduced. An interesting question would be what is the rarist Bomb cart. I say Assault is the most common.

I highly disagree with Assault being the most common if you mean NTSC. I would say Wall Defender, thats the one I have seen the most. I suppose they are all rare as hell though so it's hard to say. I just know I've only seen 1 Assault and it ended up dying on me

I agree. Wall defender has to be the most common. I think the BOMB games should be left as 9s though, even though they are so rare.

Really? Maybe I just have more contacts up North here or something as I know of a few people that have this cart. Perhaps a better question would be which Bomb cart is the rarist? I vote Great Escape.

We still need the original Z-Tack NTSC ROM.

I'm very curious about the graphics.

Well if any Canucks have this cart but need help to dump it (especially if they are local to Calgary) I'd be more than happy to assist. I am moving back to BC in few weeks, but I'm always willing to help people if need be no matter where I am. Just let me know.

I highly disagree with Assault being the most common if you mean NTSC. I would say Wall Defender, thats the one I have seen the most. I suppose they are all rare as hell though so it's hard to say. I just know I've only seen 1 Assault and it ended up dying on me
Really? Maybe I just have more contacts up North here or something as I know of a few people that have this cart. Perhaps a better question would be which Bomb cart is the rarist? I vote Great Escape.
Z-Tack :)
