The Original RE scared the shit outta me. Me and a buddy would be up late playing and would be like
you open the door, no you, come one do it pussy.
Wew when that dog jumped through the window for the first time I almost got up and ran.
The thing I loved most about the first RE (Sega Saturn version) was the fact that you were TRAPPED in the mansion estate amongst all those zombies. Yes, you were given a little freedom to move beyond, like for example the garden, but you were still on the estate property so to me the mood and tension was more pronounced than any of the later games where you ran through cities, multiple buildings, and even in underwater submarines.
I still remember thinking the first game was over only to find that the game was only just beginning once I hit the upper floors/tower section (the library room where you find the MO disk in that hidden nook) of the mansion.
I played the GC version briefly when I was visiting my brother and it was OK, but they've changed the mansion around too much. I wish they would have left the original game with enhanced graphics and an "arranged" mode of sorts for those who wanted something different.
