Some will partially work, others will not work at all. It depends on the game.

Definitely Mitch... in my experience, you'll get three types of possibility:

Small glitches - nothing too major, just the odd graphical problem or wrapping of the screen (as a PAL system has 100 extra lines to NTSC). Examples here being Ms Pacman, Water Ski, Tank Command.

Huge glitches - game runs, but is practically unplayable due to the fact most if not all of the screen is glitched up. Examples here being Touchdown Football, Ninja Golf.

Crash - game doesn't run, or crashes a few seconds in. Examples here being Midnight Mutants, Summer/Winter Games, Robotron.

I believe I own all the regular Atari PAL 7800 releases... I'm just after a few NTSC only ones (Summer Games, both Baseballs) and the hard to find HES releases...

@Salkatt... I have a number of PAL 7800 games for trade, all boxed and complete. PM/Email me if you are interested...

Was there a PAL release of Robotron?

I have all my PAL collection over here - its pretty complete - and don't want to get ANOTHER 7800 (that ould make 5) just for one game :)

There have been no confirmed copies of PAL Robotron found, yet. I suppose there's still a possibility that one could turn up. Here's my list of available 7800 games including PAL/NTSC listings.

I have played Tower Toppler NTSC on PAL console, but it has Huge glitches. Near unplayable, only if you know the levels very good, and play often.

But later I have get it in PAL. First I have think this was only release in NTSC. But now I have both, NTSC complete and PAL only cartridge.

Damnit Mitch - there are 5 Atari games that are NTSC only (plus some protos) - looks like I may have to get an NTSC unit afterall...

What about Asteroids. As far as I know it was build-in in each PAL console but was it ever released as a PAL cart. Telegames in the UK has it on their list but they don't say it is NTSC. It seems a bit silly to release it as cart if every PAL console has it build-in.

Yes, I wondered about that too. So I emailed them and they said it was PAL. I bought it and found out it was NTSC, so I returned it. That was the only mention I've ever been able to find of a PAL Asteroids cart. I guess there never was one.

Actually eight, if you include the third party games. You should be able to pick up a loose console for pretty cheap though, since you already have the rest of the accesories. :)

To my knowledge, there is no PAL Asteroids cart.

Only 8 NTSC only games? Well I'd still include the ones HES put out because:

a) they're bloody difficult to find
b) they may not have actually been officially licensed

At least I have Tank Command heh ;)

I was only counting Atari products -sorry...

The Absoulute games and Double Dragon are REAL easy to get in PAL format - I've had MANY copies of each - SALU distributed them in the UK...

Of course I now need to get 6 games - I have to include Rampage too (oh and maybe those 2 unreleased ones - damnit!)

So it looks more promising by the minute - now where can I get a boxed system from - and as early as possible!

Yes, 2600 games will be OK, it's 7800 games that have problems.

@Mitch... fair dues... but HES were notorious on the C64 for not licensing some of their cart output

@Jet Boot Jack... I have Super Skateboarding but that's about it. If you've got complete PAL copies of the other Absolute games and Double Dragon spare, let me know! :D

Actually I already have the Double Dragon box... it was also used for HES' C64 cart release of the game. Ultra rare that one...

Hi all,

I never really got into collecting PAL 7800 stuff-- are the only differences the colors and the scanlines, or are there other interesteing tweaks (different sprites, etc...) that would make my buying of PAL games worth it (besides for collector value)? I can see the obvious advantages one-way-- if you're not in the US, you missed out on some games. But, the other way, you only missed out on a finishable Impossible Mission and an officially released Sentinel. Are there any other good reasons to start collecting PAL? I'm wondering if it's worth it to start down that path. Must... fight... urge to collect... by being rationale. :)

Thanks,
-John K. Harvey

Nah, not really... it's only the fact that the two different 7800s are incompatible means I'm stuck buying the versions I have to. Otherwise I would have an NTSC 7800 and proper stock. Hmm... now if that proposed 7800 with S-video comes out, THEN there'd be a chance :D

You don't, by chance, have an extra HES Baseball do you? That's the last HES 7800 game I need besides the picture label versions of F18 and F14.
