Not an easy task. But it is possible. Here is one from wizztronics: http://www.wizztronics.com/lynx.htm

There is another one also that may even become reality. http://www.gameport.tv

Hmm...seems like a dubious claim since the website doesn't work. :)

Well, you know this is a digital website that goes on/off all the time. But the idea is to have a RISC CPU controlling a 300kgate FPGA. It has built in TV-out for all Retro-systems it is emulating. Currently there is Atari 2600 and 3 others. But the idea is to synthesize in the chips that are difficult to emulate in software like sound and sprites. The rest could be emulated using Handy code.

The Gameport is supposed to be released at aroung USD 75 but the release date is still unknown.

Not a very good example. Wizztronics abandoned this project a long time ago and never shipped a single one....

True, but the original poster was only asking if it were possible - Wizztronics proved it was possible (but not necessarily feasible) :)

Well, I've never seen one working (or even a picture of it working), but I'll take your word for it that they really got it working. Did they actually demo a working unit at World of Atari '98, or did they only show people the PC boards?

I could have sworn that they had the actual circuit up and running, but had been working on slimming it down so that it wouldn't wind up adding too much bulk to the Lynx itself. My memory could be failing me, though, as the last time I looked at their site was around the time that they had claimed that they would have the board for sale.

Wizztronics did have the the lynx to tv converter up and running

at WOA98. There used to be several demo photos of it running at:

http://www.cgexpo.com/woa98/recap/img/page4.html

Unfortunatly this website doesn't seem to be online available now.

Also, back in the day, from what I understand Atari paid $10,000

for 10 'Black Boxes' to be made, that perform the Lynx to TV task,

and were used for game demonstration and review purposes. I

picked up one of these units a while back; It's certainly functional,

but not nearly as refined as the the GCN GameBoy Player or as

portable as the SNES Super Gameboy player. But still a neat unit.

hey guys, i saw this topic and thought I'd throw something out there.

They make this adapter that i think I saw at my local used game store. It's made for the psp, but the way it hooks up, i think it may actually work on the lynx

http://www.pspontv.com/order.shtml

but really 79.99 + 15 for shipping is a bit too much for me (even if i could get it to work on the lynx)

edit:

and there are a few other similar products out there for the psp also. like this one

http://www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn/psp-tvad.html

it runs 39.90+shipping, but again , who knows if it would work on the lynx very well or at all.

Do you have pictures of the unit (inside too) and the display it creates on a TV?

Basically these are just webcams pointed at the Lynx screen. I tried my webcam to see what it looks like. The result is a screen that changes color from light blueish at the bottom and washed out at the top. But the game is playable. The screen is much better in real life than what you see by looking at it through a webcam.

yeah, thats what i figured. the headphone jack is an audio-out, but using a camera to capture video from the screen is the worst way to project the game onto a tv. If only the comlynx port could be used as video out.
